You know, it’s times like these when I realize what a superhero I am

- Tony Stark, Iron Man 3

Audiences know to expect action when they see a superhero film, and Marvel’s Iron Man 3, in theaters today, does not disappoint in this area. But what was pleasantly surprising about the epic superhuman sequel is the heart and humor that gives dimension to the story.

Robert Downey Jr.

We last saw Tony Stark (aka Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr.) in The Avengers last year, and Marvel deserves significant accolades for maintaining continuity between the two films.  But whether you’re an avid Marvel fan, or this is your first venture into the superhero realm, the storyline is engaging and easy to follow.

Iron Man 3

As the film opens, we learn that Tony Stark has been tormented by the events that took place in New York with The Avengers, resulting in anxiety attacks. To combat those attacks, he has thrown himself full-force into his work, building a series of suits for both peace of mind and distraction from past memories.

IRON MAN 3

To heighten the tension Stark already feels, a series of bombings by terrorist The Mandarin are plaguing citizens across the globe and puzzling even the most intelligent agents. The attacks become personal when The Mandarin destroys Stark’s home, including the suits he has worked so hard to perfect.

Iron Man 3

Thus begins the journey of self-discovery as Stark seeks to finally answer the question, “Does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?” Left on his own, Stark must rely on his instincts, resourcefulness, and creativity to defeat a cunning, craft, and cold enemy threatening the safety of the globe.

The film is filled with intense, on-the-edge-of-your-seats moments of suspense…it is a thrill ride of epic proportions.  But weaved throughout the story are moments where we see the human side of Stark, such as his new-found friendship with Harley (Ty Simpkins) or his tender moments with girlfriend Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow).

As you might expect, you’ll find surprises and twists that even the most devoted Marvel fan will appreciate.  Be sure to stay through the credits for a scene that may answer questions about the future of Tony Stark.

Yesterday, I toured the brand new Charleston at River Village community in Valencia, also known as Awes... Read More »

Published on Friday, May 17, 2013 by I remember the day my son asked me if he could have sushi.  My jaw sort of dropped, but since I didn't want to give him a reason to change his mind, I allowed him to select a cooked variety that we both agreed he might enjoy.  That was the beginning of his love for the Japanese delicacy.  We tend to be on the crunchier side, so while I'm always looking for healthy ... If you saw my DIY project this week, then you also saw the "art" my children created all over their toy box.  U... Read More »

Published on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 by Just a couple of years ago, I struggled to find infant and child-specific skin care products that did not contain harmful chemicals.  But as parents began to demand that parabens and phthalates be replaced with botanicals and organics, companies such as Berjang were born. This week, Totsy launched a sale featuring TooFruit Skincare products for kids.  What sets t... Read More »
