Every thing I read, reinforces how important breakfast is for kids and adults. More energy, better concentration, and weight loss are just some of the many benefits of eating a healthy, balanced breakfast. I know I’ve been feeling “off” the last several weeks before eating breakfast (hence the fainting episode last week). One of the things we as a family eat almost daily is a bowl of cereal with milk. As you know, I’m a health nut…crunchy and granola! I strive to buy healthy, natural, and organic foods whenever it’s feasible.
We recently had an opportunity to review a couple of boxes of cereal from Nature’s Path. The company strives to provide healthy, sustainable foods for families. We’ve actually purchased some of the products from the company in the past. We chose to review Leapin Lemurs and Whole Os, 2 cold cereal varieties we had not tried before. Leapin Lemurs is from the kids’ line of cereals called EnviroKidz. The entire line is certified organic and gluten–free. I find this to be refreshing for families who struggle with children who are sensitive or allergic to gluten. I also appreciate the fact that I can recognize every single ingredient listed (and there aren’t that many to begin with). The cereals are low in fat and sodium, vegetarian, and are considered a whole grain food. But just because they’re healthy, doesn’t mean the cereals taste bad. In fact, the first box (Leapin Lemurs) was empty in less than one week. And the Whole Os is halfway there! I like how they use sugar alternatives like pomegranate juice and molasses as opposed to high fructose corn syrup.
Leapin Lemurs is this delicious blend of chocolate and peanut butter and reminds me so much of a very similar kids cereal on the market (but this one is much healthier). Whole Os, while I believe is supposed to resemble another whole grain oat cereal on the market, does not actually taste like it. In fact, it has it’s own unique taste which I like, but my son is not crazy about because he’s used to the “other” cereal. Overall, I’m very impressed with the taste and nutritional content of Nature’s Path cereals. The company also sells hot cereals, toaster pastries, granola bars, and more.
Nature’s Path has a little back to school “quiz” to see how knowledgeable you are on the subject of breakfast. I hope you enjoy it!
