Slimming Down and Getting My Svelte Back! *Giveaway*

I’m less than ten pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight (as in before my 4 year old son was born) and while I’m so proud to have gotten this far, I’ve definitely hit a plateau.  And, of course, my body does not resemble it’s former 20-something self.  I’m not always as consistent with my workout schedule and while I work very hard to eat fresh, natural, healthful foods, I can stray when I’m out, traveling, or simply just busy.

Thanks to Kristen Horler, founder of Baby Boot Camp, I have some tips to share with you on slimming down after baby.

1. Check in!  Be sure you’ve been cleared for physical activity from your physician before beginning any work out program.  While you may be cleared 6-8 weeks postpartum, allow your body time to heal and recover.

2. Breast is best! Just for doing what your body is supposed to, you’ll burn up to 30o-500 calories a day.

3.  Start now! Post-pregnancy weight gain has been linked to obesity.

4. Say “no” to dieting! Rather than “diet” strive to create lifelong, healthy eating habits by consuming well-balanced meals.

5. Get on a routine! New moms may get into the habit of eating erratically, particularly when the baby is up at 3 am. If you wouldn’t eat that bowl of ice cream at 3 am before motherhood, curb the craving.

6. Snack sensibly! Rather than snacking on your toddler’s crackers or your prechooler’s chips, opt for fruits and veggies (and while you’re at it, swap them out for your child as well).

7. Schedule your workouts! Busy schedules make it easy to forego exercise.  Even 15 minute mini-workouts can help improve your mood, help you manage weight, promote sleep, and boost your energy level.

8.  Consume nutrient dense foods! Lean proteins like legumes can help with muscle repair and recovery post workout, calcium keeps bones strong, complex carbohydrates provided extended energy, and Omega-3 fatty acids support a healthy heart and nervous system.

Speaking of nutrition, I have to admit that all too often I’ll pop into my favorite coffeehouse for an energy boost and order a blended drink that’s both filling and calorie-laden.  During the webinar, I was introduced to CalNatural Svelte, a line of all-natural protein shakes which contain 16 grams protein from organic soy milk and 20% of the recommended daily value for fiber.  These naturally-sweetened shakes are dairy, lactose, and gluten-free and can provide sustained energy throughout the day.     I haven’t reached any of my weight and fitness goals this year. I’m a year older and out of shape. After months of bedrest with my babies, my body is just very blah. Time to get moving. I plan on working on my diet and also increasing my exercise this month. The time is now.

    I track everything that I am eating, you just don’t realize how many useless calories you take in just from grazing here and there until you start counting everything.

    I am 10lbs below preprego weight and had my son June 2010. I breastfeed and watch what I eat. I’m overweight and gained 13lbs while pregnant. I made sure to eat healthy so that I didn’t gain too much. Its all about eating right and portion control.

    For me exercise and water is the key- it is true- what goes in has to be less than whats used- and a word of caution as you age your metabolism slows, so lose it now

    I’ve lost around 15lbs this year so far. I walk about 2 miles every morning. I eat what I want but in smaller amounts. I cut out sodas. I drink more water. I watch the sodium intake in my foods. I decreased my fast food intake and my late night eating.

    I had just lost my Prenancy wt. etc. from my Son when I found I was Prenant w/my Daughter, & I haven’t been able to lose that Baby wt. yet… & she turns 32 this month!!! Seriously – I just started a SERIOUS weight-loss campaign, complete w/a visit to the Dr. etc. so I could really use this, AND share w/my Daughter-in-law who is trying to lose her pregnancy wt. from my 2nd Grandbaby!!!((1955nursehjc4me(at)myway(dot)com)) My tip would be – No matter WHAT it takes, do this NOW – or you will continue to add approx. 10# per year and before you know it it will be VERY HARD to get it off!!!!

    On days that I know I’m eating more or eating stuff that’s not so great for my tummy I make sure I do some kind of workout. I love to take 45 minute fast walks pushing a double stroller while talking to my family on my blue tooth! Thanks for the chance.

    I just had my son 4 months ago and I gained a good bit of weight. I’ve been trying so hard to loose the weight. I need that little extra boost. I want to get in shape not only for myself but to set a good example for my son.

    I started waking up a little earlier than my kids to work out first thing in the morning. This prevents interruptions and truly excuses, I am down almost 15 pounds since May! I too have about 10 pounds left to go.

    I’ve tried to focus more on incorporating good things, rather than eliminating the bad–I aim to eat lots of fresh, whole produce, and it turns out that I just don’t have room for the bad foods I used to crave!

    I’ve partially succeeded. I wanted to exercise more consistently this year and I’m doing that (treadmill in the mornings and Tracy Anderson and yoga at night). My diet still needs work though. I just recently cut out sugar.

    My best friend gives birth to her first right around New Years – this would be the coolest gift! We’re both pretty healthy but gaining all the pregnancy weight has been hard on her… and I could finally get her to try those Svelte drinks – so so good!

    Doing a 2 month analysis of what I was eating on caloriecount.com was the best thing for me – it really opened my eyes to what I was eating and what nutrients I was low on.

    I am a mother of 2 boys…the oldest is 2 1/2, youngest 7 months old. I lost all my baby weight by taking care of them. Mainly doing Active 2 on PS3 when they napped. I am smaller than I was pre babies but as you all know it isn’t firm anymore. I also have a few stretchmarks. I nursed both kids but nursed the oldest for 8 months!

    I am 34 weeks pregnant so my weight loss goals have kinda been thrown out the window! I did end up losing weight in the beginning of my pregnancy and am still 7 pounds from my pre pregnancy weight but that isnt really a good solution to losing!

    I started making a fruit smoothies for breakfast with low fat yogurt instead of skipping breakfast like I used to do. It helps me energize in the morning!

    i have lost 20 llbs my hubby bought me a treadmill and i walk daily for about an hour and a half. i walk when i am watching tv and i forget that im exercising 🙂

    I have not kept my goals for weightloss. I had my son about 6 months ago and I told myself that I would start working out when he was 3 months old. I really haven’t done anything yet and it’s really making me upset with myself.

    Didn’t really have any for this year. I didn’t really need to lose weight and then got pregnant in early April. So I’m really looking forward to this. I’m due the end of December and this will be great for helping me lose weight in the new year (well more like March for recovery time!)
