It was a Sunday afternoon and I was getting a head start on dinner. My daughter was getting messy creative with her paint-by-number kit and my son had gone upstairs to play with his LEGOs. At one point, I found myself thinking that it seemed way too quiet, so I casually made my way upstairs, bracing myself for the worst. Instead, I found my son quietly engaged in his latest LEGO creation. I’m constantly amazed at how creative he is, given the fact that I struggle putting LEGO sets together with a set of included instructions.
Both of my children are imaginative in their own ways, and as a parent, I am constantly working to support their talents and interests. Sometimes my son will have an intense desire to do something that he may not naturally be skilled at, so we work together to find the right classes and resources to support his passion. Alternatively, when I see a skill one or the both of them are good at, I’ll explore their desire to pursue it.
In Disney’s Tomorrowland, dreamers converge in a cinematic display of imagination and adventure. The film will transport you to a magical, inspirational place where dreams truly do become reality. The cast includes former boy-genius Frank (George Clooney), optimistic, science-minded teen Casey (Britt Robertson), mysterious Athena (Raffey Cassidy), and brilliant David Nix (Hugh Laurie), who inspire boys and girls to pursue the things they are passionate about.
It goes without saying that I likely know my kids best, but it’s helpful for me to sit down occasionally to identify what each of their strengths and talents are. Inspired by Disney’s Tomorrowland, you’ll find My Little Dreamer, a personality quiz to help you discover what type of dreamer your child is and how to nurture his/her interests.
I took the quiz with my son in mind, and discovered that his personality most closely resembles that of a professional. Strengths include being conscientious, organized, responsible, detail-oriented, observant and careful. These types of children are usually well-regulated, get along well with others, work well in groups and are often leaders, and I would say that for the most part, this describes my son. Because my son cares about the world and seeks to make it a better place (he likes to talk about when he becomes president!), he may later pursue careers in business, law, engineering or science. The best way I can support my son’s passions and personality traits are to help him start and complete a project to help foster his sense of leadership and responsibility.
Do you know what your child’s strengths are? Are you helping to nurture those passions? I encourage you to take the My Little Dreamer quiz to help you identify and nourish the dreamer in your child.
The quiz identifies 4 different types of dreamers including the Artistic Dreamer, the Humanitarian Dreamer, the Professional Dreamer and the Innovative Dreamer. Here are 4 free printable activities to help nourish the dreamer in your child:
