No compensation was received for this post. I was invited to attend the premiere, which facilitated the writing of this post.
I didn’t think it was possible, but we’ve switched out the Frozen soundtrack in our car for the brand new Muppets Most Wanted soundtrack! In preparation for Tuesday’s World Premiere at the historic El Capitan Theatre, I introduced my children to the songs featured in the film. Before we walked into the theater, both of my kids already knew that The Muppets would be hitting Europe for a world tour and that there would be an evil impostor frog named Constantine! In this exciting, caper-style musical film, The Muppets find themselves entangled in an elaborate jewelry heist headed up by the World’s Number One Criminal, who bears a striking semblance to Kermit the Frog.
My children haven’t attended many red carpet premieres so they were beyond excited to be in Hollywood for the star-studded event.
The Muppets and their co-stars took over Hollywood Boulevard to premiere the film to invited guests ahead of its March 21st theatrical release.
Just some of the stars we brushed elbows with include Terry Crews, Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais, Josh Groban, and Jared Fogle (aka The Subway Guy).
I grew up in Los Angeles and even worked at a hospital popular amongst celebrities so I don’t get easily star-struck, but I definitely got the “cool mom” award when my kids got close enough to see The Muppets participating in interviews with various celebrities.
If you’ve never seen a film inside the historic El Capitan Theatre, definitely put it on your “life list.” The theater itself is gorgeous and downstairs, guests can see a display of props and costumes from previous films. Before each production, an organist plays songs from Disney films live on-stage, which is an experience unto itself. Right before Muppets Most Wanted premiered, the infamous Statler and Waldorf from The Muppet Show delighted audiences from the balcony (just like they did in the original shows) by engaging in their traditional banter. My kids waited until the lights came up after the show because they were convinced they would return. One interesting, lesser known Muppets fact is that the El Capitan was actually used as the exterior for the historic Muppet Theatre in the original 2011 film.
After the film ended, we headed over to The Annex for an international, celebratory party! The decor and the food were inspired by the film’s global tour theme which made for a fun, festive conclusion to the night. Some of the highlights included manicures featuring OPI Nail Lacquers, Muppet-inspired games and crafts, and more.
Disney has partnered with a number of brands on Muppets Most Wanted, including Subway, Suave, and Toyota. Subway is the official fast food partner for Disney’s latest film and was recognized this year by the Partnership for A Healthier America for its kids’ meals and efforts to create healthier choices for families. Even before we saw the film, my kids were asking if they could get their very own Muppets Most Wanted Backpack, which now houses each of my children’s special toys. There are a variety of colors and characters available and the fabric backpack is free with each Kids’ Meal.
If you struggle with getting your kids to take a bath, Suave Kids new Limited Edition, Muppets-inspired bottles may just be the motivation they need to get clean. Their shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and body washes all feature your favorite characters including Kermit, Miss Piggy, and Animal.
Lastly, Toyota incorporated their “Let’s Go Places” campaign into the Muppets mayhem when they released their Super Bowl spot earlier this year. The 2014 Toyota Highlander had it’s very own spot on the red carpet earlier this week, which was used to transport The Muppets to the World Premiere.
Stay tuned for a complete review of Muppets Most Wanted, debuting in theaters nationwide on March 21st, 2014.
