We have had some gorgeous days here in Southern California, so I’ve tried to make sure that our kids are enjoying plenty of time outdoors. One of our favorite Spring traditions includes a trip to the historic Irvine Park Railroad for their annual Easter Eggstravaganza. Combining traditional holiday activities such as photos with the Easter Bunny and an Easter Egg Hunt, with the historic beauty and the greenery of the park, Eggstravaganza offers families a place to spend time together making memories as they celebrate Easter.
Even when the park isn’t hosting one of their seasonal events, it is a lush, serene place for families to spend time together. During the Spring, the area surrounding the train station is transformed and features a traditional Easter Egg Hunt, photos with the Easter Bunny, face painting, cookie decorating, carnival games, and more.
One of the highlights of Easter Eggstravaganza is their Easter Egg Hunt where children and their parents can search for colorful eggs filled with candy, stickers, train tickets, and more. Each of the egg hunts are timed and the children are separated by age group. This is brilliant, particularly for smaller, younger children. I recommend bringing an Easter basket from home, however, the park offers baskets for sale (and they are actually quite affordable). Hint: Arrive early to secure your preferred time.
This year was the first year my daughter actually voluntarily went to meet with the Easter Bunny. The backdrop at the park is actually quite lovely and we were very happy with the photos taken of our children. Parents may bring their own camera or purchase a photo for just $10. Hint: Bring a nice-ish outfit and take photos before children participate in the Eggstravaganza activities.
If you love the leisurely hay ride that traditionally runs during the Fall months, you’ll be happy to know that you can enjoy a ride this Spring! During the 15 minute ride, families will enjoy the park’s beautiful scenery including the Spring flowers now in bloom, the native oak trees, baby wild life, and the lush green meadows. Hint: This is a nice way to take a break from the day’s activities.
A visit to Irvine Park Railroad’s season happenings is not complete without creative cookie decorating! The park will provide everything you need including cookies, frosting, sprinkles and more. Simply bring your imagination and your sweet tooth! Hint: Make use of the plastic bags provided, in case your child does not finish their cookie.
In addition to the above activities, children can get their face painted, get their wiggles out in the Moon Bounce, or practice their skills at the Carnival. Don’t forget that during Easter Eggstravaganza, families can engage in the park’s regular activities including train rides, bike rentals, paddleboat rentals, pony rides and the Orange County Zoo.
Most activities require just one ticket ($5.00) and if you buy a book of 15, you’ll save $15!
