No compensation was received for this post. I was invited to the premiere which facilitated the writing of this post.
From the moment my son saw the first billboard announcing the return of his favorite minions, he couldn’t stop talking about Universal Picture’s latest animated film, Despicable Me 2. The original film was surprisingly quite funny and filled with heart and important messages about family, togetherness, and the ability for anyone to change, if motivated. The film was one of those unexpected delights that I found myself wanting to watch again to catch those little quips I missed.
Last week, Despicable Me 2 premiered at Universal Studios, complete with a vibrant yellow carpet and our very favorite minions. The sequel follows the story of bad-guy-turned-good-guy Gru, who is recruited by the Anti Villain League to stop a new super criminal who is transforming lifeforms (including his minions) into invincible machines capable of destruction. The film opens on July 3rd, 2013 in theaters everywhere, and next week I’ll share my complete review.
As we were walking the yellow carpet over the weekend, I realized that despite the number of premieres I’ve attended, my children have never accompanied me. This was a very special experience for us and one that my son is still talking about with his friends (sometimes, it’s actually in Minion Speak!).
After the film, we partied minion-style with a Mexican-inspired buffet (the film’s new super villain is Eduardo Perez, aka El Macho), cupcakes featuring our favorite yellow friends (birthday parties across the country will feature some version of these, I’m certain), a carnival, and a sneak peek at the latest game, Despicable Me: Minion Rush. Here are my favorite photos from our “despicable” day in LA!
Despicable Me 2 debuts in theaters nationwide on July 3rd, 2013. To keep up to date with the film, be sure to follow on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram.
And, if you visit Progressive, you’ll see unseen footage from the film.
