My parents were first generation Latinos who spent much of their childhood and adult life in New York. They lived in a community felt familiar to them, and while much of that was due to the people that surrounded them, they also found it important to have access to some of the things that tied them to their country of origin, specifically food. With Hispanics representing 50% of the total growth in the US, more and more companies are understanding the importance of offering a relatable shopping experience, particularly when it comes to language and culture.
Last year, CVS Pharmacy launched a brand new personalized shopping experience for the Hispanic community in Miami called CVS Pharmacy y más. This new format garnered huge success within those communities, leading to the opening of nine new stores in Los Angeles and Orange County. Understanding that certain cultural elements like food and language are important to the Hispanic consumer, CVS has committed to offering this community a bilingual shopping experience and will feature 1500 trusted Hispanic products across multiple categories.
The first of 12 LA-based locations opened this month with subsequent stores to open throughout the year. Here are just a few highlights of what to expect at CVS Pharmacy y más and how CVS Pharmacy is Reaching the Hispanic Shopper:
- Bilingual Shopping Experience: The Hispanic community will enjoy fully bilingual associates and signage throughout the store
- Culturally-Relatable Brands and Products: With over 1500 new Hispanics across the store (80% of which are sourced locally), this community will find the brands and products that tie them back to their culture. Some of the standouts include Don Francisco coffee, El Alteño, Betel, De La Cruz, La Llave, and Tadin.
- Designer Fragrances You Can Afford: A new, expansive fragrance counter offers savings of up to 50% off department store prices
- Value Pricing: Lower prices on hundreds of products throughout the store offer the value that Hispanic shoppers are looking for.
- One-stop Shopping: CVS Pharmacy y más aspires to offer shoppers everything they need in one location including beauty products, health and wellness, groceries, toys and gifts, bill pay, money transfers, and domestic/international wireless recharge.
CVS Pharmacy y más stores will address a need in the Hispanic community…a need to weave their culture into the fabric of their life here in the US. This highly tailored shopping experience will bridge the gap between their country of origin and their home here, fueling the ability to retain elements of their culture that are valuable to them.
In conjunction with the opening of LA’s first CVS Pharmacy y más store, the CVS Health Foundation presented a $50,000 grant to St. John’s Well Child and Family Center to support underserved pediatric asthma patients in South Los Angeles, many of whom are Hispanic. This grant will help families manage their child’s asthma while reducing visits to the emergency room for exacerbations.
Look for CVS Pharmacy y más stores to open in South El Monte, Bell, Walnut Park, Santa Ana, Los Angeles, South Gate, Pico Rivera, Lynwood and Norwalk. You can visit CVS.com/ymas for a complete store locator or to learn more about CVS Pharmacy y más.
