One of the first things I notice about a person is their smile (and their eyes). Strong, healthy teeth are important, and because oral care is linked to general health, we practice a set of oral care habits to ensure a healthy smile. As a young girl, I wore braces, which inevitably discolored my teeth. Combine that with my love for tea and coffee and the result is a set of teeth that I wish were whiter.
Like many, I’ve tried a number of over-the-counter products designed to whiten teeth quickly and easily at home. Some products are messy…most cause discomfort. So when I read that I could get my teeth up to 6 shades whiter with Luster‘s 1 Hour White kit, I decided to give it a try.
The kit, which is sold at Walmart and retails for around $30, includes an Accelerator Mouth Rinse, a Super Whitener Gel, and an Activating Whitening Light which utilizes the same light technology available in dental offices. You simply brush, rinse with the product provided, apply the gel to those teeth you’d like to whiten, and hold the light up to your teeth for 2 minutes. Here is a quick video detailing the steps:
As I mentioned in the video, the process was easy and should only take about an hour. I actually completed the process in 2 phases with 10 applications. After 10 applications, I noticed that my teeth were whiter but I wanted to go further and get my teeth as white as I could using the product. If I didn’t have children (ha!), I could have completed all 20 applications in one sitting, but as a mom to 2 small children, even getting the 10 applications completed was a challenge. I should also mention that you can’t really utilize that time to get anything else done because you’ll have to hold the light up to your teeth. Overall, it’s an easy, affordable, effective way to whiten your teeth and you can touch up as the months go by if necessary. After you’ve completed the whitening process, you’ll want to avoid any food or drinks that could stain teeth for a few days.
Luster was developed by dentists, and while I didn’t notice any tooth sensitivity, I did find that if I accidentally applied some of the gel to my gums or lips, it elicited a mild stinging sensation (so try to avoid any areas but your teeth). After I completed the whitening process, I didn’t notice any long term sensitivity.
