It’s the end of the month and I’m tired. The kind of “I haven’t slept the required 7-8 hours straight in days” tired that affects all aspects of your physical and emotional life. Despite the fact that history continues to repeat itself, I still haven’t learned to make provisions for the busiest week in my month. Without enough hours in my day, sleep takes a back seat, and my body tends to show this best in my face.
For the past several weeks, we’ve been talking about puffy eyes in partnership with Walmart and Solutions24 Clinical. Always wanting to know the “why” behind the “what,” this week I’m sharing some of the things that are contributing to the puffiness around my eyes.
1. Fatigue: This is perhaps my number one contributing factor in my own struggle with puffy eyes. The physiology behind this is that when we don’t sleep, our body releases excess amounts of the stress hormone cortisol. Cortisol can break down the skin’s collagen, which is the protein required to keep skin smooth and elastic (WebMD).
2. Stress: As I mentioned above, stress can have detrimental effects on the skin which is why managing and reducing the stress in your life will benefit you physically and emotionally.
3. Allergies: Inflammation associated with allergies can cause that delicate skin around the eyes to swell. The most immediate remedy is to take your prescribed allergy medication, however, I also recommend identifying the source of the allergy and avoiding it.
4. Crying: Fluid retention is a major cause of puffy eyes, and crying is one of the most significant perpetuators. While sometimes crying is inevitable, know that it will likely cause a temporary increase in swelling and subsequent puffiness around the eye.
5. Diet and Dehydration: The consumption of salty foods or inadequate consumption of water can both lead to fluid retention, noticeable around the eye. You can mitigate some of this puffiness by paying attention to the sodium content in the foods you eat, drinking plenty of water throughout the day, and exercising (which helps remove salt through sweat).
While this list is not exhaustive, it does highlight some of the most common causes of puffy eyes, which will help you find remedies that will work. This week marks the 2nd week of using Solutions24 Clinical Puffy Eyes Corrector Stick. This convenient corrector stick has done wonders for helping me spot treat my eye puffiness throughout the week, particularly on those mornings when I awoke having had just a few hours of sleep.
Available in one of 3 corrector sticks, Solutions24 Clinical is changing the way women address common skin care conditions like puffy eyes through an innovative formula that has been scientifically tested to effect results. More and more I’m finding myself gravitating to easy-to-use products that I can take with me while I’m out and about. Since the product is housed inside the corrector stick, I highly recommend preserving the integrity of the product by always covering the stick with the included protective cap and storing the corrector stick in a cool place.
Solutions24 Clinical’s Corrector Sticks are available for under $13 at your local Walmart and on Walmart.com.
