I was first introduced to probiotics by a physician who had been following my intolerance for certain foods. As part of a series of healthy changes including alterations in my diet, a regular exercise schedule, and a consistent sleep schedule, she encouraged me to take a daily probiotic. My son similarly developed several food intolerances at a young age, and our Pediatrician included a daily probiotic as part of his overall management regimen.

What are probiotics?
Probiotics have been around since the early 1900s but only recently gained recognition for their role in maintaining health. Specifically, probiotics are the “good” bacteria that naturally exist in cultured or fermented foods like yogurt. When ingested, they “crowd out” unwanted organisms so that more of this “good” bacteria is in your gut. The result is an increase in healthy gut flora and digestive balance.
How can probiotics help me?
Did you know? 70% of your immune system is located in your
gut. Probiotics have become a part of our family’s health routine, decreasing the amount of “bad” bacteria in the gut that can cause infections or inflammation. I take a probiotic daily as part of a healthy lifestyle and have noticed an improvement in my digestive health. The combination of eliminating foods that cause bloating and discomfort and the addition of a probiotic have been beneficial in alleviating the symptoms. It should be noted that it can take up to 3 weeks for results to be noted.
Which probiotic is right for me?
With so many probiotics available over the counter, it can be difficult to choose just one. I recommend speaking with your doctor before taking a probiotic.
Our family has been taking Kyo-Dophilus Probiotics for several weeks now in an effort to maintain bowel regularity and promote healthy immune
function. And on the rare occasion that one of us has digestive discomfort, probiotics are useful in alleviating symptoms.
Kyo-Dophilus Probiotics contain a human strain bacteria called The Friendly Trio that have bee documented in clinical studies to strengthen immune function, aid in a healthy inflammatory response, and restore beneficial bacteria.
Probiotics for Kids
Getting my kids to take any type of medicine or supplement has been a consistent challenge. So while I have explained the benefits of such supplements, my kids won’t take them if they have to swallow them, or they taste bad. Wakunaga of America Kyo-Dophilus Kids Probiotic is offered in a chewable vanilla-flavored tablet that is palatable and easy to take. I actually tried the probiotic before my kids to determined their palatability. These probiotics are free from GMOs, sodium, preservatives, artificial colors, dairy, gluten, and soy. And while all of these factors are important, I find the fact that their research is backed by clinical studies to to be the most compelling reason we decided to incorporate Kyo-Dophilus Probiotics into our health routine. Their Kids Probiotic is safe for kids 2 and older, allowing even young children to reap the benefits of probiotics. The tablet can be crushed into food, if necessary.
A 60-count bottle of Wakunaga of America Kyo-Dophilus Kids Probiotic retails for approximately $16 and can be purchased at your local health food store including Sprouts Farmers Market and online at Amazon. For a full list of locations, visit MomsMeet.link/wakanugalocate.
