Hubby and I have made a habit of spending time every day reading to Josh. We wait until he’s fed and alert but not fussy. Nana gave him Baby’s First Bible and we make a habit of reading it to him several times a week. It’s a wonderful time that we spend together and we are instilling in him the importance of learning about Jesus. We both feel that reading is a vital aspect of his growth and development and realize our responsibility in that.
The benefits of reading to our son are numerous, from what we’ve learned. Reading helps build a child’s vocabulary, stimulates his/her imagination, and improves his/her communication skills. It also gives us some quiet, down-time with Josh. He loves to play and we love to make him laugh. There is a time for playing but there is also a time for learning and we feel that even 5-15 minutes a day will impact his development.
