I shudder when my husband tells me he’s going out of town for work. It’s never fun to go to work, care for a household and a child by yourself…while pregnant and SICK. Add in the fact that I never avoid at all costs rarely cook and the result is a very expensive week of eating out. It’s not my fault…not really! I grew up in a house where my father did 100% of the cooking (and a majority of the cleaning for that matter). So when my mom was raising me to be a woman, the entire “domestic” edition was left out! Many years later, when I met my husband, it became this struggle to figure out how a girl who never learned to cook, and a guy whose mother made homemade meals most days of the week, could come together to create their own family.
Now, I don’t want you to think that I NEVER cook. I can take a little more credit than that. Everything I make is just very basic…whole wheat pasta and ground turkey breast, ground turkey breast burgers, chicken breast tacos. My husband is the true culinary expert creating dishes like Thai Shrimp in Coconut Sauce and Penne Arriabiata.
Last month I told you about my involvement with Frigidaire as one of their “Test Drive Moms.” I am officially on Team Range/Microwave, and in the interest of full disclosure, I will be receiving both of these items to review and keep. For the next 3 months (June – August), I will be posting about my experiences with both appliances. My goal is to provide authentic feedback on these products, to help you make an informed decision about whether these appliances would be a fit for your home and your family.
If you saw the current state of my oven (I promise to take a picture), you might understand why I loathe cooking! Without further ado, here is the latest information about these brand new appliances. I can’t wait to show them off in my kitchen.
I chose the Frigidaire Gallery 30″ Freestanding Gas Range in stainless steel (which matches the rest of our kitchen appliances perfectly). The exact model number is FGGF3056KF and retails for $1, 299.oo. Now, I’ve never purchased a range before, so I will need to do some more research to find out how the price compares to others. What I do know, is that the features are incredible. Now I know you can read all about the range on the site, but here is what I’m most excited about:
The ability to pre-heat in less than 6 minutes (that’s less time than it takes me to prepare the food that’s going into the oven)
True Convection: Now I’m not scientist, but knowing I can evenly bake 200 chicken nuggets in 10 minutes is pretty impressive. I have no idea when I’d need to bake 200 chicken nuggets, but it’s nice to know I can!
Quick Boil: Need I say more?
One-Touch Buttons: This range is smart! Just push a button for pizza or chicken nuggets. Glad I don’t have to think about that.
SpaceWise Half Rack: The flexible rack system adjusts to cook multiple dishes at once. Now the real question is, can I prepare those dishes in a timely manner to get them all in the oven at the same time?
Keep Warm Setting/Drawer: Whew! I guess they designed the range with ME in mind! Too smart! Keep the food warm until EVERYTHING is ready (hint hint Caryn!)
Low Simmer Burner: Ok, so I’ve burned a few things. Sheesh! Thankfully this range knows how to protect those delicate foods/sauces
Auto Shut-Off: Now of course I’ve never left the oven on…purposefully! This one shuts off after 6 hours.
One-Touch Self Clean: Seriously? I’d buy the range just for that feature! It cooks and it cleans itself! Now I just need it to prepare the food, serve it, and clean up afterward. Maybe that’s asking too much!
Fits-More Cooktop: With five burners, I can cook more than one entree at once.
Along with the range, I also get a microwave. It’s a great space saver since it fits nicely over the range. I don’t think I’d have room for it on my counter anyway! Here are some of the features I’m looking forward to:
Effortless Reheat: Those leftovers aren’t sounding so bad after all! With a touch of a button, revive those leftovers!
SpaceWise Rack: I don’t think I’ve ever owned a microwave where I could cook more than one dish at a time.
One-Touch Options: Cook all of your favorites (baked potatoes, popcorn, etc.) with the touch of a button

Congratulations! That range looks awesome! There are so many racks. I know a good stove will help make you want to cook more. Before I moved and got my new stove I rarely cooked, now I cook everyday.
Hey Rockin’ Mama! Frigidaire is giving me a new refrigerator to replace the SAD excuse for the one I have now. Ok, it’s 25 years old, and a built-in. Can’t wait to take the Sledgehammer of Refrigerator Justice to it and get it out of my kitchen. New refrigerator coming is shiny and pretty. OOOOOO.
