I learned that – to helping keep each other clean, grooming reduces tension among group members. Chimpanzees are sociable animals who seem to need physical contact, and grooming helps satisfy this need. It also strengthens ties between group members. Sometimes as many as 10 chimpanzees will take part in these peaceful, relaxed grooming sessions. Often a grooming group will be made up of a mother and several of her offspring of different ages. Adult males may also groom one another

I love how Eugene’s love and affection for these chimps is giving the a chance at a better life then living in a little itty bitty cage. One of the first episodes I saw one of the chimps (i dont know which one) was stuck in a cage so small there was no room to do more then sit. How people can be so cruel to other animals always amazes me.

I learned that Eugene can teach chimps some of the basics, but I wonder did the chimps teach Eugene anything?

What’s not to love about chimps being themselves? They are funny and quite human-like.

Well I guess I learned the series is on Animal Planet – I’m afraid I’ve never heard of this series before but looks like something my little nephew would love to see when he visits me.

Something I learned from the site is if you put a sample of chimpanzee DNA next to a sample of human DNA — and if you had any idea what you were looking at — you would see that the samples are nearly identical. Chimps and humans share 96 percent of their DNA.

    You can adopt a chimp!

haha, when i was little i thought when you “adopted” a wild animal, you
could take it home. i was so dissapointed when they just gave me a picture of the animal and a stuffed animal….

i learned More than 98 percent of our DNA matches up to that of apes, which makes them genetically closer to us than gorillas

What I learned is there is this concept called Mystery Chimps, (and there is an episode with that subheading). Anyway, this means that these “mystery chimps” could not be integrated with the “other” chimps. But even when the chimps are not mystery chimps the individual personalites may not be able to get along with each other or the group because they may not fit in personality wise. Okay, that last sentence may have been a little unwieldy…but I still learned enough to be impressed with the series.

We love anything from the Animal Planet that teaches us about real animals in the wild. Human DNA is almost identical to the DNA of apes!

I learned that the Jane Goodall Institute’s Chimpanzee Eden (also known as “Chimp Eden”) is set on 1,000 hectares on part of the Cussons family game reserve — Umholti Nature Reserve.
