I loved school and learning and reading as a child…I still do! I took all sorts of advanced placement classes in high school like English and Calculus. For some children, however, subjects like math are not easily mastered.
There is a great new web-based, individualized math e-learning product for kids called DreamBox Learning. which was released on the 27th of January. I haven’t actually “played” with the program because I have a MAC and was experiencing some difficulty with the Flash aspect of the program. If you’d like to see a preview, head on over to the site.
Here is a little more info about the program from the company’s latest press release:
DreamBox Learning is an innovative online learning produc built on a standards-based mathematics curriculum and wrapped in a fun, adventure-style interactive game. Developed for children in kindergarten through second grade, DreamBox Learning K-2 Math is an adaptive product that complements what young students learn in the classroom by developing and reinforcing foundational math concepts through effective, individualized instruction while simultaneously being fun and engaging for kids at home.
DreamBox Learning K-2 Math is fundamentally different than any other kids’ math learning product on the market. Its underlying curriculum is based on standards set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and presents in-depth math lessons that develop computational fluency, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving ability. As the child embarks on his/her online math adventure, DreamBox Learning’s patented GuideRight™ technology analyzes a student’s individual responses and dynamically customizes the content and sequence for each child — just as a great teacher would adapt a lesson to adjust to students who learn in different ways. Kids are able to explore well over a million individual learning paths throughout their math adventures.
DreamBox Learning can be played from any computer with high-speed internet access. Plans are available for as low as $8.33 per month. Once you sign your child up, he/she will choose a game character, decide what game he/she would like to play, and then begin playing. The first time your child “plays,” the system will analyze what he/she already knows in order to place him/her in the appropriate curriculum. It is recommmended that children play at least twice a week for 15 minutes in order to reap the most benefits.
If you’re interested in previewing the program, the company is offering a free, 14 day trial!
