School is in session, which means the cold and flu season is right around the corner. While it might have been ok to be a bit lax during the summer months, now is the time to remind my kids about the importance of hand-washing, adequate sleep and nutrition, and other preventive health measures. I’m also using the start of the new school season to remind my kids about basic preventive health habits like brushing teeth regularly, eating a healthy diet filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, and getting outside to move our bodies.
Health and wellness are topics that are best discussed with children at an early age. Even before my kids were verbal, I was talking to them about the basics like washing hands before meals. Some of the best resources we’ve found to help our children understand health and wellness include Doc McStuffins’ books, toys, and episodes. The show debuted on the Disney Channel in 2012 and follows the aspiring doctor as she “fixes” her toys and dolls. Not only does the show help educate children about healthy habits, it alleviates some of the anxiety of visiting the doctor.
Perfectly timed for the start of the new school year, Doc will embark on a 10-city mobile tour across the country. The Doc Mobile is a 27 foot Airstream trailer custom-designed to teach children and their families about health and nutrition. “So Much You Can Do…to Take Care of You!” was inspired by Disney’s Doc McStuffins and will invite kids to perform a “check-up” on their toys and participate in fun inspired activities focused on healthy living and well-being. Radio Disney will also be on hand to provide lively entertainment. Parents will also have an opportunity to meet real-live doctors from the Artemis Medical Society.
Doc McStuffins debuted at Disney’s D23 Expo earlier this month and the new season of the show begins today on Disney Junior and the Disney Channel. To see a list of all tour stops across the nation, visit DisneyJunior.com,
*Note* LA fans…The Doc Mobile Tour will stop at The Grove on September 26th, 2013.
