I have to admit that when I peruse Kinfolk or Luxe, I find myself lamenting about how impossible it seems to “dress up” my home in a way that reflects my personal sense of style. Home décor is so much more than the patterns on my living room throw rug or the shape of my bedroom lamps, and very often I find that my current mood and the trends I’m seeing online dictate my sense of style.
Last month, I had an opportunity to visit the headquarters of Better Homes and Gardens for a sneak peek at their new product lines debuting exclusively at Walmart. The two have a longstanding partnership and seek to provide families like my own with on-trend, home décor solutions at competitive pricing.
During our visit, we previewed an expansive selection of home décor products for indoor and outdoor living and met with some of the editors of Better Homes and Gardens for more intimate workshops. I walked away truly feeling like I could achieve many of the looks presented at headquarters without spending a lot of money.
Many people change the look of their home with the seasons, particularly as we draw closer to Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Here are 5 things you can do right now to change the look and feel of your home:
1. Change out your lampshades with the seasons. Rather than purchasing new lamps which can be costly, invest in a few seasonal, on-trend lampshades to give your living or bedroom space a fresh, new look.
2. Use décor pillows and throws to brighten up a room.
3. Use a closet organizer to free up space in your bedroom.
4. Don’t be afraid of color!
5. Build seasonal centerpieces.
Earlier this year, I freshened up our sleeping space with the help of Walmart. Along with adding color through bedroom linens, I incorporated a few throw pillows from Better Homes and Gardens in my Easy Spring Bedroom Makeover. At that time, I had thought about changing out my lamps (or even just the shades). Since Walmart is launching an expansive selection of new, exclusive Better Homes and Gardens products, I thought I’d peruse the home section at my local store to see if I could find lamps or even the fillable lamp bases we saw in Bentonville last Fall. I picked up the very last set of Bronze Finish Table Lamps which feature Faux-Silk Champagne-Hued Bell Shades which I knew would compliment my bedroom nicely.
These lamps come unassembled and while not entirely difficult, I did struggle to get the lamp shades put together. The set does not come with light bulbs, so I decided to follow Better Homes and Gardens’ tip to “mis it up” by mixing lighting types. For warm rooms like a bedroom, this helps to create a dramatic effect. Be sure to use CFL light bulbs like GE’s Reveal line for greener, more sustainable lighting throughout your home.
While there is no one section entirely dedicated to Better Homes and Gardens products, you’ll find them sprinkled in many sections throughout the store. You can also find an extensive selection when you shop on Walmart.com.
