Shopping with my mom was and still is one of our favorite ways to spend time together. My mother has impeccable fashion sense which she attributes to having lived and worked in New York much of her life. She always knew which prints and styles looked best on my frame, and having shopped with her so many years of my life, she taught me how to look trendy and chic on a budget. As part of my involvement with Walmart, I’ve been spending a lot more time in the apparel department of my local store and quite impressed with what I’m finding. You may remember the Women’s Spring Outfits I put together last year, the chic, trendy looks Jeannie Mai created last summer, our affordable, back-to-school-on-a-budget guide, and fresh, winter essentials on a budget. From $4 tanks to soccer essentials starting at just $5, Walmart has been our go-to for our fashion needs.
With Easter just around the corner, I peeked into my children’s closets and realized that anything suitable really didn’t fit them. Since Walmart challenged us to put together some affordable easter outfits for our family, I headed into my local store to see what I could find. This is my first venture into Walmart’s dressier styles and almost immediately, I was greeted with the vibrant colors of Spring.
Shopping for my daughter was seamless and my only challenge was deciding which dress she wanted. We finally decided on a lovely crochet dress from George. Available in three colors, this dress is stylish but comfortable. I personally like that the color palette veers from the more traditional Easter pastels for a trendy Spring look. The lace top-layer is soft and the dress includes a satin under skirt to keep my daughter comfortable. The dress also includes a simple satin ribbon belt which compliments the dress nicely. I couldn’t believe the price when I saw it because an Easter dress under $10 is practically unheard of! Since it has been a bit chilly in the mornings, I decided to pick up a simple white sweater to layer on top of the dress.
Admittedly, I always find shopping for my son a struggle. In general, the options are typically more limited. Walmart had an impressive selection of suits for boys (most of which were under $20), but my son wouldn’t even look at them so I had to go for a more non-traditional approach to his Easter outfit. We finally agreed on a pair of Khaki Cargo Shorts ($14.97) paired with a turquoise plaid woven shirt by Wrangler ($7.97). We always have several warm days interspersed throughout the Spring as we head into summer so it’s nice to have a few pairs of shorts on-hand for those bright sunny days. These shorts can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion and feature a belt and an adjustable waist band. The fabric is made from 100% cotton and it feels strong and durable for little boys like my son who like to play hard.
For the last several years, I’ve been purchasing woven shirts for my son at Walmart and they seem to wear forever. I pair these shirts with jeans or shorts throughout the year and they look great for casual and more dressy occasions. Because we’ve purchased these Wrangler shirts in the past, I can tell you that along with being comfortable, they don’t fade in the wash. I do however recommend taking them out of the dryer immediately as they tend to wrinkle if not hung up or laid flat.
For just over $40 after tax, I was able to outfit both of my kids for Easter with clothes they can wear throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall months. Remember to visit Walmart.com if you don’t find your preferred colors or sizes in-store since their selection of Spring and Easter apparel is quite expansive.
