I wish I had captured the response of my son when I told him we would be having a mini sleepover at the LEGOLAND Hotel. My son is an avid LEGO fan, and for months we’ve talked about visiting the hotel. His eyes were wide with excitement and awe when I told him that we would be sleeping in a Kingdom-themed room AND that both him and his sister would have a special sleeping area complete with bunk beds and their own TV!
Earlier this month, the first LEGO-themed hotel in North America opened it’s doors to guests after two years of construction. Featuring more than 3,500 LEGO models built with over 3 million LEGO bricks, the LEGOLAND Hotel offers families a unique, memorable experience.
The adventure begins when families choose from one of three themed rooms: Pirate, Kingdom, or Adventure. Additionally guests have the option of selecting a Preimum-themed room, which offers additional LEGO models, decor, and themed wall paper. We selected the Kingdom room and after previewing all 3, it’s still my favorite. Each of the rooms are intricately designed and I’m fascinated by the innovation and creativity that went into integrating the themes so seamlessly, that we felt like we were immersed within a world of LEGOS.
Every facet of the hotel was well-thought out and designed with kids in mind. Little step stools help small tots like my son reach the sink, built-in potty seats take the apprehension out of toilet training outside the home, trundle beds alleviate the fears of parents children who are hesitant to sleep on the top bunk, and even the peep holes, located at a child’s eye level, communicate that this hotel is for kids!
At check-in, my kids received a special treasure hunt activity with clues to help them unlock the treasure chest that is housed in each room. This was actually the incentive for getting my kids up to the room ,since they literally spent half of our first day playing with their friends in the Castle Play area. Housed in the lobby, this play area is based on the LEGO Kingdom and Pirates line and offers children plenty of opportunities to build, get creative, and even get some of their wiggles out. Every night, this area becomes a gathering place for families to relax and enjoy a beverage while their children participate in knight-led dancing, storytime, and knighting ceremonies.
As you can imagine, you’ll find LEGOS everywhere, including a giant pit where my daughter ended up nearly taking permanent residence in. Additionally, each room includes a tub of LEGOS which I found to be ideal for keeping kids occupied during downtime or when we were getting ready for the day.
One of my son’s favorite things to do was trade his mini-figures with the staff members. It actually became quite a game with him and his friends and I really appreciated how friendly and patient the staff were as the children continued to trade their mini-figures.
In addition to a wealth of indoor activities, the family pool offers a relaxing way to wind down after a day at the park. On Friday and Saturday evenings during peak season, the resort hosts Swim Up Movies.
While the resort is truly the first to cater directly to children, adults can rest assure that there are plenty of activities for them including a fitness center and The Skyline Cafe which offers light snacks, wines, cocktails in a casual setting. Additionally, the resort offers 3 dining options, one of which is Bricks Family Restaurant which provides families with a healthy dining option in a buffet-type setting. Stay tuned for my feature on the restaurant in a coming post.
My kids had a wonderful, memorable experience at the LEGOLAND Hotel and their only complaint? That we couldn’t move in! If that isn’t enough to compel you to plan a visit, here are five more reasons to book your stay at the first LEGO-themed Hotel in North America:
1. Early access to select LEGOLAND rides and attractions before the park opens to the public
2. Walking distance to both LEGOLAND Park and SEA LIFE Aquarium
3. Free, Nightly Entertainment takes the stress out of keeping children occupied after the park closes
4. Separate sleeping areas that offer parents a restful night’s sleep while still maintaining close supervision of their children
5. Disco Elevator (you have to see it to believe it!)
To book your stay, visit their website. Be sure to check often as the resort offers special packages throughout the year.
