Like most children, my littles prefer juice over water and milk, despite the fact that I waited much longer than most parents to introduce them to it. Both my son and daughter will drink water and milk, but as the days begin to warm up, they’re looking to quench their thirst in more interesting, flavorful ways. Since many conventional juices are made with other ingredients including artificial colors, sweeteners, and flavors, the challenge is finding an alternative that they’ll drink without spending a lot of money.
Old Orchard recently introduced a brand new frozen juice concentrate with a nutrition profile I can feel good about. Made with 100% juices and juice blends, these concentrates are free from added sugar, artificial flavors and preservatives. Each 8-ounce serving is the equivalent to two servings of fruit and contains more than the daily recommended value of Vitamin C. As a child, my mother often used frozen juice concentrates because they were affordable and easy to prepare, but at that time, they often contained ingredients like artificial dyes and high fructose corn syrup. Old Orchard’s 100% Juice Concentrates make it convenient and affordable for moms like myself to have natural fruit juices on-hand, particularly when the only other alternative is to juice raw fruits and vegetables by hand.
During a visit to our local Walmart, I asked the kids to pick out a couple of different flavors of these new concentrates to try at home. There are 20 different varieties so the biggest challenge was getting us all to agree on a few to try. Based on what was available at our local store, we picked up Apple Cherry, Apple Kiwi Strawberry, and Apple Cranberry (for me!). Some of the other flavors I wanted to try included the juice blends made with pomegranate and the Orange with Calcium variety. Since these juices are concentrated, you’ll find them in the freezer section as opposed to the shelf-stable section.
To prepare these juices, simply thaw the concentrate (I ran the container under warm water but you can also use the microwave) and mix in 3 cans of water (I used a pitcher). One 12 ounce can yields 48 ounces (or 6 servings) of juice. The prep was quick and simple and we had juice in just a few minutes. One of the tips I would suggest is to avoid letting the concentrate thaw completely so the juice is nice and cold and ready to serve immediately. And, if you find them to be too sweet, you can always add ice or cold water. Along with enjoying Old Orchard frozen juice concentrates as is, I can see us using them for smoothies, popsicles, and even snow cones!
Old Orchard frozen juice concentrates are now available in the freezer section of your local Walmart for just $1.47 per can (which is approximately 25 cents per serving). Along with offering a greater value over conventional juice boxes, these concentrates offer families juices that are natural and comprised of 100% juice.
Right now, Old Orchard is currently running a sweepstakes for a chance to win free juice for a year. Simply visit OldOrchard.com/Win to enter. You can also download free coupons towards your next purchase here.
