Now We Can All Decorate Like Betty Crocker…

Posted by Caryn Bailey 3 Comments

Tomorrow, my husband and I will spend most of the day cooking and baking in preparation for Thanksgiving.  I should probably clarify.  I will be baking and he will be cooking.  The holidays are special for so many different reasons…reasons best left for another post.  But food definitely plays an important part.  I’ll be honest…I prefer to make everything at home.  But, I do have to admit that I will very often use a mix for breads or cakes and frosting I don’t have to hand-whip myself.

If you’re looking for an easy way to make your favorite desserts look like they came out of a bakery, check out Betty Crocker’s new Decorating Cupcake Icing.  I have to admit that I can probably count on my hands the number of times I’ve made frosting from scratch.  And while I would prefer to make it myself, it’s actually not that easy.  I never seem to get the right consistency or flavor.  Take a look at the cupcakes I made the other day:

The Icing is simple to use, tastes good (a little too good!), and makes cupcakes look fantastic.  It is just the right consistency for decorating and it doesn’t have to be refrigerated (which makes my life just a bit easier).  You can find Betty Crocker Decorating Cupcake Icing at Walmart for $3.99 a can.  One can will decorate 12 standard or 24 mini cupcakes.  With the icing you’ll receive 4 different plastic decorating tips which will allow you to draw, create and ribbon, leaf, or star designs.  And for the holiday season, you’ll find Ivy Green and Rose Red.

I actually like Betty Crocker’s frosting better than my homemade frosting too, mostly because of the taste and the consistency is always right on.
How cool it is that it now comes in cans, making decorating a breeze.

I saw these and wasn’t sure about them because I find store bought icing too sweet sometimes. I also make REALLY good homemade icing that was my grandmother’s recipe. But knowing that this tastes really good and is so easy to use, I just may have to try it as I am NOT that good at decorating.
    Thanks for the review…
