5 Reasons to Purchase an Unlocked Smart Phone

Posted by Caryn Bailey Leave a Comment

An unlocked smart phone offers convenience and a substantial savings with the ability to shop around for providers. As a small business owner, having a current smartphone is a huge timesaver. It means that I can maintain control of my inbox while I’m waiting for an appointment, share live, real-time coverage of an event, update an article I’m working on and so much more. Technology is constantly changing, and my profession requires that I keep up which is why lately, I’ve been thinking of making the switch to an unlocked smart phone.

What is an Unlocked Smart Phone

Traditionally, the only affordable, practical way to purchase a smart phone was to sign up for a contract with a carrier. Smart phone models and plans were limited to the carrier that you contracted with. For example, my current contract requires that I keep my smart phone for 2 years in order to secure the affordable price of $200. Without a 2-year contract, the same phone would cost $550.  When you purchase an affordable unlocked smart phone, you can shop for the phone, carrier, and plan that works best for your personal and professional needs.

5 Reasons To Purchase an Unlocked Smart Phone

  1. Freedom of choice. When you purchase an unlocked smart phone, you decide which model you want to pair with a carrier and a plan. And if you find a network with a better price in 6 months, you can switch easily without penalty fees.
  2. Long-term savings. While it is possible to find an unlocked smart phone for under $100, you can typically expect to pay a bit more than you would for a contracted phone. However, the long-term cost is typically less than a contracted phone. The options for plans is significantly more expansive and an unlocked smart phone also gives you the freedom to use older plans that can save you money.
  3. Idea for international travel. In the past year, I’ve traveled out of the country at least twice, and found myself without cell service and reliant on the locale’s WiFi to stay somewhat connected. The cost of securing a temporary plan was substantial enough to warrant me purchasing an international SIM card when I arrived at my destination. If you find yourself traveling internationally, you’ll enjoy greater flexibility and lower rates on calls by purchasing a local SIM card.
  4. Stay current with technology. Two years ago, I purchased a smart phone that I believed would be idea for working on-the-go. A few months later, I realized that I needed a phone with more memory but was unable to exchange it because the 90-day return window had expired. I have been anxiously awaiting the end of this current contract to purchase a new smart phone that will have the storage capacity I need. With an unlocked smart phone, you don’t have any contracts which means you can sell your current phone to upgrade at your leisure.
  5. Higher resale value. An unlocked smart phone retains its value because it isn’t tied to a particular carrier and opens up the pool of potential buyers.

Since many people use their smart phones to capture their day-to-day life, the Huawei Honor 8 features 12 MP dual lenses for crisp photos during the day and night. The 3D Fingerprint Sensor ensures a higher level of security and improves fingerprint recognition over time, affording you faster access to the data and functionality you need. The Honor 8 supports US major carriers’ GSM/UMTS/4G LTE networks, giving you the freedom to choose the carrier and plan that works best for you.
