My father used to tell me that age is simply a number…that you’re only as old as you feel. I didn’t really understand what that meant as a tween or a twenty-something year old girl, but now that I’m in my mid-thirties (ack!), I can relate to his perspective and sage wisdom. Apart from the few gray hairs I’ve noticed that suddenly arose out of nowhere and the fine lines I’m beginning to notice, I can still keep up with my kids with little effort. The only evidence I know that my body is aging are these changes in my hair and skin.
My mother always told me that adequate rest, minimizing stress, plenty of water, and skin protection were her foolproof ways she maintains her youthful appearance, and just the other day she was complimented again on how young she still looks. I’m thankful that my skin is only showing minimal signs of aging, but I’ve also worked hard to take care of my skin by keeping it hydrated and protected from the sun.
Beauty is something our culture places a high value on, and from the sheer number of products on the market, it’s very difficult to determine which anti-aging remedy is most effective. My routine has always been as follows:
- Cleanse twice daily
- Moisturize twice daily
- Exfoliate at least weekly
- Protect from the sun daily
- Get adequate rest
- Drink half my weight in water daily
Admittedly, when I hear about the latest anti-aging treatment, I’m skeptical. I don’t like to use a lot of chemicals on my body (particularly on my face) and the professional procedures offered by dermatologists are pricey. When I first heard about illuMask, an innovative, affordable new light therapy anti-aging skin treatment, I was intrigued. Founder Jay Tapper wanted to bring advanced skincare technology to everyone in the form of a device that could be used in the comfort of their home.
How does illuMask work?
At present, La Lumiere offers both an Angi-Acne Light Therapy mask and an Anti-Aging Phototherapy Mask. Each mask uses precise LED light wavelengths which are then distributed evenly across the face in daily 15 minute treatment sessions. The easy-to-use, photo-reflective mask is worn on the face and has a built-in pair of dark glasses to protect your eyes during treatment.
I’m glowing!
How do I use illuMask?
Don’t let the appearance of the mask intimidate you because it is SO easy to use. Simply wash your face as you normally would, put on the mask, then press and briefly hold down the power button. Sit back, relax, and allow the treatment to work on your skin for 15 minutes. You’ll likely notice results within a few weeks and up to 4 weeks after beginning treatments. One thing to note…once you hit the power button, you’ll have to sit with the mask on for 15 minutes and you won’t be able to stop and start it at your leisure. I was a bit disappointed to find this out since the first time or two I used the mask my kids interrupted me. Dedicate a 15 minute block of time each day to get the maximum use out of this mask.
If you have a skin care regimen you follow, you can still continue to use your favorite skin care products while using illuMask since they won’t interfere with this treatment. Each mask contains 30, 15-minute treatments and then you’ll have to purchase a new mask if you want to continue treatments. There is no limit as to how long you can use the illuMask and many people find that it is a beneficial addition to their current skin care regimen.
Personally, my biggest concerns (apart from the fine lines I’m noticing) are the skin pigmentation changes I’ve had off and on since my teen years. I’ve seen some improvement (lightening) in my skin tone and an overall brightness to my skin.
At a price point of $29.97, you can have access to a safe, professional, quality skin care treatment that offers noticeable results after 30 days for less than $1 per day. illuMask is currently available in an anti-aging phototherapy mask and an anti-acne light therapy mask at Walmart and online at Walmart.com.
