7 Easy Kitchen Organization Hacks

Posted by Caryn Bailey Leave a Comment

I knew that when I moved into my condo, kitchen organization was going to be a challenge. My previous home did not have a spacious kitchen, but it had cabinet space for days. Like most families, we spend a significant amount of time in the kitchen preparing and cooking meals. It is also one of the first spaces guest walk into during a visit.

Thank you to Bellacor, who provided a gift card towards the purchase of a kitchen island.

Kitchen Organization Challenges

I tend to be a minimalist, however, I love kitchen tools and gadgets to streamline my cooking efforts. Because of the simplistic kitchen design in my current community, I donated about half of my kitchen items upon move-in. Cabinet space has been my most pressing challenge, and very often you’ll find those gadgets overflowing onto my counter.

There are a number of kitchen organization challenges that families face including size, design and cabinet space.

  • Size: If your kitchen is small, consider housing only the most essential appliances. You might also consider a foldable kitchen table or a Murphy table, which folds into a wall.
  • Cabinet Space:  If cabinet space is minimal, make the most of the space you have by installing rolling shelves (or a Lazy Susan) and using the insides of your cabinets to hang measuring cups, utensils, etc.
  • Design: Maximize the space in your kitchen by complimenting the existing design with a kitchen island or cart. Utilize the island or cart to store cookware, bakeware, and gadgets. The surface can also serve as an extra counter or temporary buffet for serving food and drinks.

Kitchen Organization Hacks

Kitchen Island

In an effort to tackle my kitchen organization project, I purchased a Home Styles Furniture Napa Kitchen Center from Bellacor. I chose this particular kitchen island because of its compact size and spacious storage areas. I was also looking for a piece that was stylish, modern, and durable. Constructed from solid wood, it features a natural finish and heavy-duty locking rubber casters. This means that I can move the island around in my kitchen depending on my needs for space or entertaining. The brushed steel hardware adds a touch of elegance to this kitchen island.

Kitchen Island Cart

This is a smaller island than most, and yet it offers ample storage space. I have been using the two utility drawers for spatulas and other large utensils, while the double door storage cabinet houses some of the larger appliances that used to sit on my kitchen counter. The cabinets include adjustable shelves so that storing large or smaller items is feasible depending on your individual needs. I placed some of my nicer plates in the open center storage space to make them easier to access for entertaining. They also compliment the island nicely. A spice rack/towel bar and paper towel holder complete the kitchen island. I moved my gourmet olive oil set to this space and completely eliminated the metal paper towel holder that was taking up space on my kitchen counter.

Kitchen Center

In addition to maximizing the space in your kitchen with an island, here are 7 Easy Kitchen Organization Hacks.

Pot Rack

  • Use a pot rack to store large pots and pans. This will also free up space in your cabinets to store other kitchen accessories including bakeware.

Spice Cubby

  • Replace your spice rack with a wall-mounted spice cubby. Minimize the items on your counter to open up the space in your kitchen. Use available wall space to store spices and add a chic, modern accent to your kitchen.

Multi Storage Unit

  • Use a wall-mounted paper towel holder. Bonus: This Multi-Storage Unit also stores plastic wrap and aluminum foil.

Expandable Cutlery Tray

  • Replace your knife block with an expandable cutlery tray. This will also help free up available space on your kitchen counters.

Coffee Storage Containers

  • Utilize food storage containers where it makes sense. Carefully consider whether or not a food storage unit will maximize space or positively contribute to the overall aesthetic of your kitchen.

Drop Leaf Table

  • Consider investing in a drop leaf table for use in small dining areas or when the kitchen and dining area are combined. You can expand the table when entertaining guests.

Wine Bottle Holder

  • Elevate your wine storage. This wall-mounted wine bottle holder is modern yet simplistic and will eliminate the need for space-consuming wine cabinets.
