My love for food runs deep, particularly when artfully plated and skillfully created by some of the most renowned chefs in Orange County. I had little foresight on what to expect at this year’s Taste of Huntington Beach but I walked away with a broader view of the local culinary scene and a very content palate.
Originated by The Friends of the Children’s Library, this annual event celebrated its 15th anniversary by introducing locals to nearly 50 restaurants, catering companies and food exhibitors, and 35 California wineries and breweries specializing in alcoholic beverages. Despite its illusive name suggesting small bites, I walked away more than satisfied, my only concern being whether or not I could fit in one last dessert from
The culinary scene in Huntington Beach is superb, and if you ever have occasion to visit, I know you won’t be disappointed. Here are some of our favorite dishes from the 2015 Taste of Huntington Beach:
Bruschetta from Sprouts Farmers Market: A lesser known fact about the grocery store specializing in natural, organic foods is that their website is a great resource for fresh, gourmet recipes like this bruschetta.
Caprese from Pizza Lounge: Contrary to its name, artisan pizzas are just one of several gourmet menu items featured at Pizza Lounge. This fresh caprese salad features Buffalo mozzarella, red onion and basil finished with their signature cabernet vinaigrette.
House Roasted Almonds from Watertable: Rosemary and Maldon Sea Salt Flakes set these almonds apart and make for the perfect appetizer before a meal inspired by the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa’s Spanish heritage.
Edamame from Reef’s Edge Grill: You haven’t had edamame quite like this one, which gets its kick from a combination of rock salt, chile and roasted garlic.
Lobster Ceviche from The Longboard Restaurant & Pub
Grilled Prawns from Sandy’s: These grilled prawns are just a sampling of the seafood haven you’ll delight in with Sandy’s Mixed Grill. This fresh selection of seafood is accompanied by a sweet potato chorizo hash and a corn puree.
These fortune cookies from Pick Up Stix were the most surprisingly adorable dessert at this year’s Taste of Huntington Beach.
Known for their authentic gourmet Italian dishes, Cucina Alessa won us over with their delightful cream puffs.
I admittedly have a weakness for red velvet cupcakes, particularly when they’re homemade by Cupcake Wars winner Bubba Sweets.
Hands down the most unique, inspired dessert was this Captain Crunch Ice Cream with Foie Gras, Caramel Sauce and Malted milk from Shades Restaurant at The Waterfront Beach Resort.
In addition to an endless array of gourmet food and drink, a handful of vendors showcasing their product, including Verizon FiOS SoCal. With their experience vehicles on-hand, guests had an opportunity to see live demos of their quantum speed internet services. You can catch Verizon FiOS SoCal at one of their local upcoming events including the Huntington Beach Duck-a-Thon, the California Strawberry Festival, Fiesta Hermosa and the Temecula Balloon and Wine Festival.
