{In collaboration with JCPenney}
Earlier this week, my kids began the countdown to the new school year, complete with a list of all the things they still want to do before the end of summer. This is a time that is bittersweet for me. I want nothing more than to spend our days waking up long after the sun has risen, grabbing ice cream before dinner, and swimming late into the night. But my greater desire for each of them is that they will have an immense desire to learn…that they will find something to pursue wholeheartedly…that they will find that happy place where work and passion converge. And that is why I build up the coming back-to-school season.
The new school year is a fresh start…the chance to start anew, and perhaps that is what I love most about this season. Each new school year comes with its own set of requisite supplies, designed to help students like my kids succeed. But equally important are the things that kids need to help them feel good about themselves as a student, an athlete, and even a friend.
This week, JCPenney and the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles hosted their #SoWorthIt Back-to-School Community event for local families and their teens/tweens to inspire confidence as they head back to school. Guests enjoyed mini-makeovers, hair-styling, vision screenings (with free glasses to kids who needed them), Arizona Jeans fittings, and a gifting suite which included backpacks and a JCPenney gift card. Additionally, Vanessa Lachey made a special appearance and even helped some of the tweens/teens in attendance pick out Arizona jeans.
The tween and teen years are likely one of the most difficult in a child’s life. The changes in body combined with peer challenges and an increased academic demand can cause angst. I love how JCPenney and Sephora teamed up to offer the guests a bit of pampering while showing them how to accentuate their beauty through hair and makeup. Guests also went home with a better idea of which particular Arizona Jeans style was best for them as well as a pair to start off the new school year.
JCPenney recently announced its partnership with the YMCA, where they will support families through grants/donations, volunteerism, events and expertise. One such example of how this partnership will be realized is in volunteerism. JCPenney associates will partner with their local branch to volunteer by helping with youth programs, tutoring, mentoring, and more. During this week’s Back-To-School Community Event, JCPenney associates volunteered their time to assist with the varied happenings including fittings. Additionally, JCPenney will donate $1 for every pair of Arizona Jeans sold and this money will support the YMCA’s academic achievement programs and help them get ready for the new school year.
JCPenney has everything you need to get your student ready for the new school year. Visit your local store or shop online for Arizona jeans, backpacks, shoes, athletic wear, beauty, technology, and vision.
