Letting Go…

Posted by Caryn Bailey 3 Comments

It is only in the act of nursing that a woman realizes her motherhood in visible and tangible fashion; it is a joy of every moment.  ~Honore de Balzac

It’s instinctual…natural…effortless…challenging…frustrating…

Learning how to nurse wasn’t easy for us.  It took months for my son and I to “work it out.”   Thirteen months later and we’re facing a new challenge.  I never thought I’d be nursing my son this long.  He’s not ready…and maybe neither am I.  But my body is telling us both that it’s time.  It’s bittersweet, really.  I know that what I’ve given him will stay with him for the rest of his life.  We’ve developed a bond that no one else can replicate.  He’s grown and developed into a sweet, funny, strong-willed little boy…so healthy.  What a joy this time has been.  And so a new challenge emerges…I only hope we’re stronger on the other side…

Good for you for making it this long! I read somewhere that only 10% of babies are still nursing by one year of age! Sad…

I am getting ready to start weaning my little one. It’s sad, because I know he’s the last baby I’ll have, so I don’t want to let go. But I think it’s time. Good luck with your challenge!

I know this exact feeling. We had to adjust at first and then it was sad when it was time to end for us too. Yet, what an accomplishment!
