I’ve been wearing glasses since I was in elementary school, a fact most people who know me well don’t even know. I grew up in an age where wearing glasses was less than “cool” and the frame options available often confirmed that fact. I began wearing contact lenses as soon as my doctor allowed and for years only wore glasses in the comfort of my own home…at night…in the dark! But a few years ago, I realized that my eyes needed more than just an 8-hour break and there were times when I simply didn’t want to bother with contact lenses. I picked out a frame I loved along with lenses that masked my less-than-perfect vision and I actually wore those glasses out in public!

Fast forward several years and I’m still wearing those same glasses! While I have known that the time for an upgrade is long overdue, it wasn’t until I browsed Walmart’s new affordable designer glasses at headquarters earlier this Fall that I actually started getting excited about picking out a new frame! The team representing Walmart’s Vision Center had a selection of designer-inspired frames on display alongside their pricier counterparts and to be honest, I could not appreciate a noticeable difference. Some of the designer frames you’ll find at Walmart include JLo, Sophia Loren, Allure, Hard Candy, CoverGirl, Baby Phat, and Milano for women, and Duck Commander, Randy Jackson, and Stetson for men. Kids who balk at the idea of wearing glasses will love the Hello Kitty, Barbie, and Nickelodeon (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) styles available.

After perusing the selection available, I referenced Walmart’s Eyeglass Frame Buying Guide (primarily the chart that helps you find the right frame based on the shape of your face) before selecting a pair of smart, stylish frames from Allure.
This square-shaped, metal frame is simple and modern and I love how lightweight they are. The frame retails for $48 and the only additional cost needed are the lenses, which start at $29 for single vision lenses. My previous frames were fitted with Transitions lenses which were incredibly versatile for indoor and outdoor use, so I decided to purchase the same types of lenses for this current frame.
In addition to offering comprehensive vision care services, designer frames and lenses, Walmart’s Vision Center also offers a generous selection of both conventional and colored contact lenses (including fittings!). The latest trend we’re seeing in fashion eyewear is the use of colored contacts, and through Walmart’s Color Studio, you can virtually try on a set of lenses.
I “tried on” a pair of subtle hazel lenses that I thought actually complemented my face and features nicely.
