Back to School Shopping For Under $50? *Updated With a Giveaway*

Sometimes I think about all of the expenses that we have with our son and it’s a little overwhelming, considering we’ll be adding another baby into the mix soon.  Between toys, clothes, shoes, and gear, the shopping list is never-ending.  The school year is starting, and if you have more than one child, you may be feeling the financial stress of having to shop for clothes, shoes, and supplies.

wmlogoIt isn’t unusual for moms to spend an average of $234 on clothing during the Back to School season (stats courtesy of Walmart).  And just like shoes, children outgrow clothing so quickly.  I recently went through my son’s closet and pulled out items that don’t fit him anymore.  There were articles that he had either never worn, or barely worn.  So while I’d love to buy him a designer wardrobe, I don’t have the money and it’s impractical.

Walmart has a wide array of clothing options for your child at affordable prices.  When I say affordable, I mean $5 tops, $3 shorts, and $6 jeans (on average, prices can be higher or lower).  Faded Glory is one of their children’s lines and they have adorable clothing for boys and girls.

Thanks to Walmart, I was given a $50 gift card to show you what clothing options could be purchased.  So I decided to see what I could get for 3 children….yes….THREE!  Here is a little video I shot while on vacation with my son and his two cousins:

So the total price including tax was $47.52.  Awesome!  Are you impressed?  I am.  My husband knows I’m the queen of bargain shopping.  Here is the rundown of what we bought:

1.  T shirt and a pair of shorts

2. Long-sleeved, button down shirt with a pair of jeans

3.  Girl’s dress

4.  Girl’s dress

5.  Girl’s shirt and skirt outfit

6.  Boy’s t-shirt and shorts

7.  Boy’s long-sleeved t shirt and pants

On average, each outfit cost less than $10, with the girl’s dresses a bit cheaper.  We were all impressed!

Profuse thanks to Walmart for this fun opportunity.  We happily donated all of the clothes to my cousins!

  71. Wasn’t able to do quite as well as you, since these students are adults, but casual clothes do very well for college, and I found these for my daughter:

    Faded Glory, women’s classic fit jeans, $12
    Several tees for $3-5, but picked the White Stag women’s Henley, $4
    Dr. Scholl’s women’s air-pillo gel aspire sneakers, wide-width, $20–there are cheaper ones, but in shoes comfort is all!

    And she would still have some left for socks, etc.

  98. i know what you mean i shop at walmart all the time and get great things on clearance that is, right now at my store all the summer clothes is 50% off and such a great deal i got my son two pairs of shorts for a total of 6.00 and i was tickled to death. i find my tops for 3 and 4 dollars alot on their clearance items. their is several good deals now on clearance items and i am a dedicated shopper at walmart.

  141. Kyle’s sneakers for boys $8 to $10 depending on size and a few various color styles to pick from in this line. You could probably get your sons shoes there just as cheap as at Payless and probably an easier return policy too. I’m sure if you have 3 small children you could easily get them all a new pair of shoes with the $50 gift card. Hope to win, but good luck to all.

  225. First of all…that was a cute video! It was great to hear your voice and see your beautiful smile (I can’t wait to see you next week!). And that dress looks great on you!

    Secondly, I agree that Walmart has amazing prices. Since my kids aren’t quite old enough for school, I think I’d stock up on “basics” (socks, underwear, etc.) for the whole family. Plus, I just browsed the Walmart site and noticed that women’s camisoles are $4-6 each. That’s a super deal!

  251. My computer is getting ready to die (it freezes, doesn’t start up well, etc.), and while I’m glad it’s giving me warning (I have had them die with none), it still is not welcome news. On the Wal Mart site, I found a Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop for 498.00. That is amazing.

  267. We are going on a trip Saturday and I didn’t want to check baggage as its expensive and we have a layover and then have to catch another flight.
    Most of our suitcases are to big for carry on so I went to walmart.com and looked and I found the 3-Piece Value Luggage Set, Black $19.00

  290. We don’t buy a lot of clothing at Walmart, but there are some specific items that we do purchase there. They have good prices on underwear and socks. I also like their selection of jeans. We buy my husband’s jeans there. I would like to see Walmart sell more clothing, linens, towels, etc… that are made in the U.S.A. I always worry about what is in things when they are made in some of the other countries that manufacture these items for our country. Thanks for the giveaway.

  305. I LOVE WALMART!!! I have 3 teenagers and i do almost all of my shopping at walmart because i can afford it. I get my shopping done all in one place and dont need to waste gas. I would LOVE this prize. I am a subscriber. I saw some great skinny jeans online clearance for only 9.00 WOW!!
