The Legend of Honey Hollow

Posted by Caryn Bailey Leave a Comment

happy1-leveledWith Earth Day coming up in about two weeks, my goal is to share with you as many eco-friendly products and resources as possible.  I’m extremely passionate about preserving the environment and do as much as I can to reduce, reuse, and recycle.  I understand the importance of preserving precious resources and I want my son to grow up in a world that isn’t deprived of natural resources, glaciers, rain forests, and unpolluted oceans.  Topics such as global warming, pollution, and endangered species are difficult to explain to children.  I often find that children’s books are a great way to explain complex topics in a way that is both comprehensible and meaningful.

thelegendofhoneyhollowI recently had an opportunity to review The Legend of Honey Hollow, a children’s book written to teach children about an important environmental concern…endangered bears.  Here is a little more information about the book from the site:

In The Legend of Honey Hollow™, bears from all over the world find a home-away-from-home after their natural habitats are threatened. Join Grendel the Polar Bear as she arrives at Honey Hollow, a magical place where the air is pure, the water is clean and everyone is always welcome!

bearhug-leveledThe book is beautifully illustrated and portrays an accurate depiction of real-life events, such as oil drilling and cut-down trees.  The pictures add a rich dimension to the story and initially portray a somewhat somber tone, emphasizing the seriousness of the subject.  Fortunately, the story concludes with a hopeful tone.  I appreciate the fact that the author provides children with information on the steps we can take to help preserve the environment.  Community, sharing and trust are important unifying messages and the book is best summed up by this quote:  “At Honey Hollow, we help each other.  Though their parents have damaged our habitat, children are the planet’s future.”

The Legend of Honey Hollow is available for purchase on Amazon.com and various major book retailers.

Profuse thanks to the Family Review Network for this review opportunity!
