My son was only 2 months old when we moved from the only city I ever truly called home, to an apartment 60+ miles from every friend and family member I’d ever known. Between my husband’s demanding job and the move, I often felt isolated. Like many women looking to connect, relate to, and be understood, I started a blog. Despite only having a few months of motherhood experience to draw from, I somehow found that I had a lot to say about the subject. And people started reading…people outside of my inner circle of friends and family members.
Five years isn’t terribly long, but because of how quickly technology changes, it’s significant. I started my site when Twitter was in it’s infant stage…when Facebook was still primarily being used by college students…when blogs were truly online journals connecting women (and men) thousands of miles away over sleepless nights and toddler meltdowns. I’ve been around long enough to know a time when blogs weren’t as heavily saturated with brand messages.
When I met Niri two years ago at a brand-sponsored event, I knew that she was different. We clicked right away as we talked about our families…our blogs…social media….our pursuits and dreams. I was drawn to her writing style, relating and connecting with her stories. I admired her passion for using her voice, influence, and writing for good. Just a few months later a dream of hers came true with the launch of her philanthropic website titled Mommy Niri Cares. At a time when bloggers were looking to see what they could “get” with their influence, Niri was (and is) using her voice and influence for good.
Her passion for social causes and efforts is realized at Mommy Niri Cares where she shares stories of struggle and strength, interviews those in her community working for societal good, and highlights those brands supporting important social causes. Not only is she making a difference in her community, she is inspiring women (and men) across the globe to go into their communities to get involved in doing good.
