What To Do For New Year’s In Southern California

Posted by Caryn Bailey 4 Comments

If you can believe it, the hubby and I will get a date night this New Year’s Eve alone…without kids!  So now we’re faced with the decision of what to do.  Here are some of the ideas we’ve tossed around:

Disneyland:  The first New Year’s Eve party at Disneyland was held 30 years ago! Check out some highlights from previous celebrations:

Rock On! Ride On! at Knott’s Berry Merry Farm:  Ring in the new year with live music, dancing and a Pyrotechnic Show. Don’t forget about your favorite seasonal attractions including It’s Christmas Snoopy.

CityRockin’ New Year’s Eve:  Join L.A.’s largest free celebration complete with live bands and three fireworks locations.  The WaterWorld Arena Fireworks Viewing Area is recommended for families.  Several restaurants will also host themed menus and entertainment.

Kids’ New Year’s Eve at Legoland:  This is the perfect venue for little ones who can’t stay up until midnight!  The celebration begins at 3 pm with performances by Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band, Aaron Nigel Smith and the FUNdamentals with Justin Roberts, and Not Ready for Naptime Players.  The evening commences with a countdown followed by a huge LEGO brick dropping 22 feet into 2011 with a fireworks display over Miniland at 6 pm.  Kids will receive party hats, glow-in-the-dark bracelets and fireworks viewing glasses.

SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration:  While the park does not have a specific New Year’s Eve event, this is the last week to ice skate, visit Santa’s Cottage, see the Christmas Tree of Lights, and watch Shamu’s Christmas, Christmas Tails, and Clyde and Seamore’s Night Before Christmas.

Jungle Bells at the San Diego Zoo: Enjoy music, lighted animal figures, interactive shows and critter presentations, munch holiday treats and take a Candy Cane Lane Magical Journey.  It’s a zoorific holiday celebrations.

OC Fair New Year’s Eve Block Party:  Here is your chance to enjoy live tribute band entrainment with DJs, karaoke, and gourmet food trucks.

Noon Year’s Eve at Discovery Science Center:  Highlights include a balloon drop at 12pm, 2pm & 4pm, your child’s chance to walk the red carpet, Karaoke, a ginger ale toast and make your own seltzer rockets and party poppers.

Watch the Rose Parade:  From home or in person.  You can either sit in the Grandstand (ticket required and they’re still available) or curbside for free.

Celebrate in Santa Monica:  While there are several celebrations happening in the beach city, The Annual All-New One-Time-Only New Year’s Eve Musical Revue looks fun for the entire family.  Be sure to check the site for a complete list of events.

Celebrate in Long Beach: This family-friendly celebration includes live music, a magician, face painting, balloon art, a trackless train, and a Fireworks Spectacular. The best part? It’s free!

Ring in the New Year on the Queen Mary: With six different parties you’re certain to find something you’ll enjoy including jazz, Dueling Pianos, Big Band, and Disco.

What are your plans for New Year’s Eve? If you’re SoCal local, what did I miss?
