What Is Your View On Weight Loss?

Posted by Caryn Bailey 2 Comments

It’s been three and a half years since I had my son (13 months since I had my daughter) and I’m 10 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight (as in, before my son was born).  Like most women post-baby, it’s been difficult.  I went from eating everything I wanted during pregnancy to eating everything I wanted while I was nursing my children. Even at a year, I still find myself justifying that second cookie or that ice blended mocha with the fact that I’m nursing a baby.

Weight loss is difficult for most people.  I personally did nothing fancy.  I simply ate less and moved more. But for many people, they need more structure, accountability, support, and encouragement.  I tend to be very numbers focused. When that scaled did not move for MONTHS, I wanted to give up. I wanted to quit trying to fit into those pre-pregnancy jeans. I wanted to give in to the fact that my body will never look the same. But what motivates me to continue the journey is my health…I want to be healthy for my children.

The new year is a time where many people focus on change.  Whether it’s exercising more, eating healthier, losing weight, or taking more time for yourself, any change requires a little motivation.

This coming Tuesday, I’ll be at The Grove, along with other women to step on a ginormous scale of inspirational words.  Rather than focusing on numbers, the focus will be on what I can gain by losing those last 1o pounds.  When I lose those last 10 pounds, I’m going to buy myself an outfit…something beautiful to go out on a date with my husband. I haven’t bought myself a single article of clothing (apart from maternity and nursing clothes) since I was pregnant with my son. That is what I hope to gain this year by losing those last 10 pounds.

Special K is challenging you to change the way you view resolutions such as weight loss and management.  They’ll be at The Grove, this coming Tuesday, January 18th from 2 to 5 pm and I’ll be on site to cover the event. If you’re in the area, stop by for a little inspiration, support, samples, coupons, and more.  For more information, just visit them on Facebook.

What questions would you have if you were attending such an event?  How do you approach weight loss?  Do you have any tried and true methods other than eating less and moving more? I’d love to hear your thoughts…

This is a compensated campaign via The Motherhood.

Honestly, I think that having a healthy weight is a lifestyle choice not a temporary thing you do to fit into a smaller sized pair of jeans. You don’t necessarily have to eat less. You have to eat differently. You can totally fill up on a healthy green salad, lean meat, small whole grain serving and fresh fruit. You can NOT fill up on chocolate chip cookies and cheesecake. You don’t eat less. You eat smarter. I weigh exactly what I should and only a few pounds (less than 5) away from what I did in high school. I eat healthy. I exercise daily. I take vitamins and supplements. I avoid overly processed foods. I am for all natural when I can. I do the same for my kids. I wish I lived close enough to go to The Grove. I think this would be a fantastic event!

For me it took a lot of work, it wasn’t until I was motivated by my readers and community that I was actually able to focus on the simple things that make a different. Like eating smaller meals more often and accepting that any movement is better than no movement. Then I was able to lose the weight. I could lose a little bit more, but I’m enjoying myself along the way which makes the weight loss a lot easier.
