Do you “celebrate” Halloween? While I’m not one to scare or be scared, we do like to dress up. In fact, my husband and I met at a church Halloween party, so it’s only fitting that we at least dress up! Last year, we took my son around the neighborhood, dressed as Bob the Builder. Once he realized that knocking on other people’s doors was fun and not scary, he didn’t want to go home!
This year, my little boy picked out his own Halloween Costume. He definitely has his favorite characters, but when given the option, we had to nix the Dora idea. So, his second choice was Thomas (much better for little boys, don’t you think?). We just picked it out last week so when it arrives, I’ll be sure to take pictures to show you our little Thomas!
If you’re looking for a costume for your child or yourself, you definitely want to check out Halloween Express. The store actually has numerous retail locations throughout the country. I found two in my area. They claim to have the “absolute largest selection of Halloween costumes and costume accessories” and I think they’re right. Apart from your typical adult and kids’ costumes, you’ll find group and movie costumes. Many of their Children’s costumes are under $30 and most orders are shipped the same day, provided you order in time for the 5 pm EST cut off. If your purchase is over $65, you’ll qualify for free shipping.
What do you do for Halloween? Do you and your children dress up? Go trick or treating? Attend a Harvest Festival? I’d love for you to share!

We absolutely LOVE Halloween in our home. For one of my girls it is a very special day. Her Birthday! Hehe…she thinks everyone decorates just for her!
If Halloween is a school night, we have pizza. If not, then I pull out my “Gross Grub” and “Gross Goodies” cookbooks by, Tina Vilicich – Solomon, and have a moster of a dinner followed by birthday cake and icecream. We visit our neighbors and travel the neighborhood.
After heading home, PJ’s are put on and the kids enjoy showing off their loot and snacking on a piece or two after inspections are completed!
Halloween is HUGE holiday in our community, lots of houses go all out with decorations, and the surrounding towns even BUS in kids to trick or treat… some of the houses downtown get over 1000 visitors. I don’t live close to downtown so I only get about 150 – 200. But The Hubs, Nano (the dog) & I dress up, and then sit out on our front porch (along with our neighbors) and hand out candy (plus I have small glasses of wine for the parents I know). The parents who are out with their children leave a bowl on their porch with a note (we keep an eye on it) with a note to take one (which most kids do).
We also have a haunted walk to benefit charity for 3 weekends – one that is for 12 and older, and one for little kids. It’s a fantastic time of year. It really kicks off the holiday season around here…
