‘Tis the Season To Be Jolly With American Express *Giveaway*

Posted by Caryn Bailey 538 Comments

This giveaway is now closed. Thanks for stopping by. The winners are Cori W., Margaret S., Mami2jcn, Maria P., Steph A., Ellie W., Erin M., Sharon O, Abby, and Melissa P.  Congrats!

Yesterday, I participated in an online chat with several noteworthy bloggers to discuss gifts that inspire. Along with some great ideas for friends and family, I thought a bit more about what I would like this year.  I’d rather have experiences than “stuff.”  Staycations, trips to an amusement park, and a visit to a spa were some of the ideas I offered.

If you’re struggling with gift ideas, I highly recommend choosing a gift card.  I absolutely love receiving gift cards because I can choose my gift (or experience).  Gift cards offer flexibility and this year, American Express is adding a little holiday cheer to gift cards purchased through February 1, 2011.

American Express recently launched Season of Surprises.  Everyone who receives an American Express Gift Card can log onto their site to see if they’ve won one of 2,000 $25 gift cards or one of 10 $10,000 prizes.  By entering your card number, you are also entered to win the grand prize of $100,000.

Gift cards still remain a popular gift item according to a recent study by American Express.  American Express gift cards are available in $25-$500 denominations, have no fees after purchase (activation, checking a balance, monthly servicing, card replacement) and the funds on the card never expire.  American Express will replace lost or stolen gift cards for free.  American Express gift cards can be used at U.S. retailers and restaurants that accept American Express Cards and are available for purchase online and at over 70,000 retail outlets. For more information about American Express gift cards, just visit their website.

WIN IT!!! TEN of you will win a $25 American Express gift card.  But wait…there’s more!   Next week, TEN more of you will win a $25 American Express gift card so be sure to stop by next Friday.  To enter, simply leave a comment stating why a friend or family member deserves the Season of Surprises this holiday season and a chance to win $100,000.   Please note, this giveaway will only last one week.  Comments will close on December 10, 2010 at 11:59 PM PST.  US Residents only.  Duplicates and comments not including the above information will be disqualified. Comments are moderated. If you don’t see your comment in a reasonable amount of time, send me an email. Bloggers and non-bloggers may enter. If you don’t want to leave your email address, please be sure to check back for my announcement on the winner. Please note that winners must respond within 48 hours of being announced/contacted or another winner will be drawn.

Want an extra entry? Do any or all of the following and receive an extra entry for each one. Be sure to leave me a separate comment for each additional entry.

My daughter, Heather deserves the Season of Surprises this Holiday season. She’s been through it this past year. She spent most of the summer in the hospital trying to prevent a premature delivery. Her son was delivered three weeks early via C-section in which she had to be put to sleep after 17 unsuccessful needle sticks with trying to start an Epidural. The end result was a beautiful baby boy and she says she would do it all over again if she had to. When she found out she was pregnant she was just coming off the throws of an addiction to pain medication for a back injury that she has dealt with for about three years. She beat the addiction and yesterday she finally had the surgery she’s been trying to have since the injury so that she could be relieved of the back, leg, and hip pain.
While going through all of this she has been an awesome single mom with two beautiful little boys and she’s also the primary caregiver to her sister’s little boy. Her sister decided she wasn’t ready to be a mom so she walked off and left her little boy with me and her sister. Heather took on the task of raising Lil Man while I worked to provide a home for all of them.
Today I found out that what little bit of child support she has been receiving from her son’s father has ended. She depended on the child support to provide for her babies until she is able to return from to work after recovering from her surgery. I hate for her to receive this information this time of year. It’s going to huge burden on her and she’s going to struggle to deal with yet another slap in the face but she’s tough and she will make it through.
Winning this Season’s of Surprises would absolutely tickle her to death and then some.

My mom works at a front office of a dental office but her hours were recently cut in half because business isn’t as busy now. They have been struggling to make there bills and could really use the help this year!

The friend or family member that deserves the Season of Surprises this holiday season and a chance to win $100,000 would have to be my parents. They are so very giving to all six of their children & the rest of our family. My parents have yet to take a vacation by airplane, boat or train. I’d love to see them get away for a nice vacation. My parents love all their children unconditionally and now love their grandchildren the same. My parents are just absolutely wonderful people and I think they deserve to win. Thank you.

My son has gone through so much this year. He has inoperable tumors on his legs. He has had two sugeries to try to repair the damage done by them and remove them. The last one split the muscle to the bone on his calf. It destroyed the nerves all along it, leaving him in terrible pain. (The tumor was the size of an orange). They started growing back, two weeks after the surgery, and are spreading. He now has developed high blood pressure. I don’t know if it is from the pain, or his kidneys are failing again. In two weeks we find out if they will do chemo, or he will have to have both of his legs amputated at the knees. That is a tough thing to go through when you are only 21. He could use a little cheering up right now.

my sister deserves this because she is a very giving person but she is the one who needs help, she is disabled with cyrabral palsy, has depression, ADD, carpaltunnel, as well as many other issues. in the last couple years she has been robbed twice, and just a month ago her apartment was set on fire. She could really use this. she is very deserving.

The $100,000 my family needs as we also hav had financial probelms and we will be forecloswed on and forced to move soon. We need money to find a place to live and move.

My husband definitely deserves this! He has put up with the hormonal ups and downs, morning sickness, and generally insanity of 2 back to back pregnancies, which thankfully, we are almost done with. I have been on bedrest, so aside from working 60+ hours per week, he has been taking care of the baby when he’s home, doing all the housework, cleaning up TONS of vomit (I have had awful, awful morning sickness…or should I say 24/7 sickness!) and he does all of this and more without complaining!

Everyone in my life is truly wonderful and deserving of such a substantial prize, and I wish I could gift it to all of them this Christmas. I’d especially love to see it go to my mom and stepfather (who I consider my real dad) they’re amazing people who have worked so hard their entire lives and I’d love for them to take a break and enjoy themselves for once.

Thank you for the giveaway chance!

I have a friend who I think deserves the prize, she is a single grandparent who has custody of her grandson. He is on a ventilator and requires around the clock care. The money would help them with all the bills that are mounting up, it would also help pay for additional nursing care so she could get some rest.

I believe my Husband deserves everything good in this world. Everyday he wakes up and is gone before the sun comes up. He works up to 12 hours a day in a job that I know is wasting his talents. He comes home exhausted and often has to go to sleep only a few hours after he gets here. He does it all for our daughter. He wants her to have a good life, to have the insurance she needs and always be provided for. This is why I think he deserves $100k. With that, he could go back to school and finish his education the way I know he wants.

My hubby does for all he does for me and the kids and even the grandkids. Even after having a heart attack and losing a daughter he always puts others in this family before himself. Bills keep coming and we had to cancel our health insurance but he keeps giving.

I think My mom needs a Season of Surprises. It has been a tough year for her. She was diagnosed with cancer and has had to take an early retirement, So instead of looking forward to Christmas this year, she is dreading it with concerns of her heath and financial fears.

On top of making wonderful meals for friends & family, She supports the local shelter and helps the people LESS fortunate than us! I think she deserves the world for all the lives she has changed and hope she has brought to others.

When my husband lost his job a couple of years ago, we had no choice but to move out of state. It took almost a year to sell our house. We watched the value of it drop month after month. It was so horrible trying to keep up on the mortgages on both homes. The value of our home went down by $80,000. In order to sell it, we had to actually cash in our 401K. We had a few people say that we should just walk away, but we wanted to do the right thing and while it was hard, we had the means. It’s going to take a long time to dig our way out of debt, but we feel good about our decision. $100,000 would be a good way to get on stable ground again.

My friend Joanna could definitely use a “Season of Surprises” – she was laid off from the office job she held for almost ten years and has had to move to a smaller place with her daughter and sell most of their major possessions to make ends meet. I’d love for her to receive a huge (and much-needed) surprise this holiday season as she still struggles to find a well-paying job in this economy. Thanks for the chance to enter (and possibly help her out in my own small way)!
