“Pay attention to where you are going because without meaning you might get nowhere.”
— A.A. Milne
On July 15th, Walt Disney Animation Studios will release Winnie the Pooh, a film inspired by three stories written by author A.A. Milne. I watched an advanced screening over the weekend and just adored it.
The film features “the timeless charm, wit, and whimsy” of the original featurettes and reunites Pooh and his friends as they embark on a joint venture to find Eeyore’s lost tail. What begins as a search to find honey results in a “wild quest” to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit.

While I was watching the film, I took note of the music. Zooey Deschanel, who starred in Almost Famous, performs three songs for the film, including her take on the classic theme song Winnie the Pooh by the Sherman Brothers. She also performs A Very Important Thing to Do and So Long, which she wrote. While the music is familiar and retains it’s traditional sentiment, it’s been modernized for a contemporary feel.
The soundtrack to the film includes Deschanel’s songs, the Sherman Brothers classic, several of the original songs by Robert Lopez and wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez, and the original score from composer Henry Jackman. The soundtrack will be released on July 12th, right before the film.
Win It! THREE of you will win a copy of the soundtrack to Winnie the Pooh. Simply leave me a comment with either your favorite Pooh memory or something you’re looking forward to with regards to the film. Comments will close on July 6th, 2011 at 11:59 PM PST.
