Over the last year or so, my husband’s techie side has seriously rubbed off on me. This year, I’ve added an e-reader and a smart phone to the list of devices I can no longer function without. And don’t forget the laptop that accompanies most of my road and air trips.
With Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab, I can practically leave the laptop at home! New from Verizon Wireless is a 7 inch tablet that weighs less than one pound. My husband has the Droid Incredible and the Tab and in some ways, resembles his phone in the way it looks and operates (except bigger). That is because the Tab features Froyo, Google’s Android 2.2 platform which means you can download thousands of apps currently available on Android Market.
While it took some practice to get accustomed to the touch screen, I actually like it because I don’t have to pull a physical keyboard out. The Tab features a virtual QWERTY keyboard and SWYPE technology.
The Tab resembles in a laptop computer in many ways, while retaining the compactness and transportability of a tablet. It’s very fast (features 3G connectivity) and fully integrated with services like Google Maps and YouTube. Keeping up to date is easy with integrated social networking apps like Facebook, Twitter, and Whrrl. Watch shows and movies via Samsung’s new Media Hub and read your favorite books or magazines via the pre-loaded Amazon Kindle e-Reader. Remember those tech gadgets I was talking about earlier? Leave the e-Reader and portable DVD player at home when you travel because the Samsung Galaxy Tab is really all you need for surfing the web, watching movies, reading books, or even catching up on work.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab is easy to use and offers so much in the way of programs and applications. It’s available right now for $599.99 with a new Verizon Wireless contract.
