Director Peter Lepeniotis drew inspiration for his computer-animated comedic heist The Nut Job, from his animated short Surly Squirrel. The film, which was released by Open Road Films in 2014, followed the story of Surly (Will Arnett), an exiled squirrel who gets entangled in a human gang’s bank robbery. This year, Surly and his friends are back.
The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature, stars Arnett, Jackie Chan, Maya Rudolph, Katherine Heigl, Gabriel Iglesias and Jeff Dunham in a story about the gang’s quest to take back their park. The evil mayor of Oakton has decided to bulldoze Liberty Park, replacing it with a dangerous amusement park. When Surly and his friends learn of the mayor’s plan, they rally a group of animal friends to help them save their home by taking back the park. Newcomer Mr. Feng (Chan), joins this eclectic group to help thwart the mayor’s plot.
