I saw The Nutcracker as a young girl one holiday season, thus launching my short stint into ballet and my love for performing arts. While Tchaikovsky’s ballet is performed by countless companies across the globe, the production at the Irvine Barclay Theatre is unique in that it offers an experience for the entire family.

The Nutcracker
Inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker was not initially a success. But his 20-minute “suite” extracted from the ballet was what ultimately led to its success.
The Nutcracker tells the story of a girl named Clara, who befriends a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and wages a battle against the evil Mouse King.

Festival Ballet Theatre
This will be our first visit to the Festival Ballet Theatre, and I am excited to introduce my daughter to this beautiful, iconic, holiday classic.
The Festival Ballet Theatre is a nonprofit organization founded in 1988 by Salwa Rizkalla. The mission of the theatre is to enrich Orange County’s artistic and economic vitality, to inspire love and appreciation for dance, and to invigorate ballet.
Throughout the season, the theatre presents classical and contemporary performances and offers stimulating educational outreach programs.
