On March 29th, Walt Disney Studios‘ blockbuster animated feature, Tangled will be released on DVD and Blu-ray. Disney’s fresh and modern take on the ancient 19th century German fairy tale offers adventure, comedy, and of course, Disney magic. Tangled stars Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, a teenage girl seeking freedom, and Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider, a charming bandit who’s on the run. When Flynn seeks refuge in the mysterious tower that houses Rapunzel, the two embark on a hair-raising adventure of self-discovery and freedom.

The film is Walt Disney Studios’ 50th full-length animated feature and the first Disney animated title to debut on Disney Blu-ray 3D. Being that I’m a relatively new Blu-ray owner, I’m constantly impressed with the diversity of special features on these high-tech discs. Beyond deleted scenes and extended songs, you’ll find alternate versions of the film’s opening scene and a behind-the-scenes look at the film, including Rapunzel’s Golden Tresses.
One of my favorite aspects of all Disney films is the music. The Blu-ray version includes the complete versions of “When Will My Life Begin” and “Mother Knows Best” as well as an explanation from the co-directors as to why they were cut down. You can also view three deleted scenes including explanations as to why they were cut. If you like trivia, don’t miss Untangled: The Making of a Fairy Tale, where Mandy Moore and Zach Levi take you through a bit of Disney history and a behind-the-scene look at how the film evolved. And, if you want a laugh, check out the collection of quirky commercials made for the theatrical release of the film, many which were spoofs off of infomercials and/or breaking news.

If you read my original review, than you may remember that I was completely awestruck by Rapunzel’s hair, which at times seems to take on a life of it’s own. Her 70 feet golden locks are integral to Rapunzel’s character and symbolic of her plight. The story itself is inspirational…the characters relatable…the music memorable.
While I enjoy seeing a film initially in a theater, it’s nice to have a copy at home, particularly when it’s a film geared towards my children. Tangled will be available for purchase on March 29th.
If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, The Disney Store is hosting Tangled Adventure on Saturday March 26th from 12-2 pm. Children can 3 and over can participate in themed games, activities, and giveaways. You can find a participating location here.
Win It! One of you will win a copy of Tangled (Blu-ray Combo Pack) plus one of the following: A Pascal Beanie Baby, Flynn Ryder and Rapunzel T-Shirts, or Official Disney Paper Lanterns. Simply leave me a comment with your new found talent (see widget above). Comments will close on April 3rd, 2011 at 11:59 PM PST.
