Nearly twenty years ago, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, was hailed as “one of the most beautiful and exciting animated features ever made” by Hot Ticket, and USA Today praised the filmmakers for “fashioning a movie that will touch the hearts of both children and adults.” Thus debuted a global phenomenon and a franchise that follows the adventures of a Kiger Mustang stallion named Spirit. Spirit’s success also inspired a Netflix series and the latest film, Spirit Untamed. Now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital, Spirit Untamed is a story of family, friendship, and adventure.

Spirit Untamed is both a spin-off and a reboot of the original film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and the Netflix television series Spirit Riding Free. The story follows a young girl named Fortuna “Lucky” Prescott, who moves to the rural community of Miradero to join her estranged father. Unimpressed with the small town, she uncovers a unique tie to her late mother who was a fearless horse-riding stunt performer. Lucky immediately forms a bond with Spirit, a wild Kiger Mustang, and meets her two best friends. Together, they set off on the adventure of a lifetime to rescue the horse who gave her an indelible connection to her mother’s legacy. The film celebrates strong relationships, and we appreciate how the film inspires children to persevere, work together, and care for animals.
