Rockin’ Back to School With Crayola

Posted by Caryn Bailey 2 Comments

I love when my daughter runs up to me with a piece of paper in her hand, motioning for me to get her the box of crayons stored on our bookshelf.  Both of my children enjoy coloring, but my husband and I agree that our daughter is the artistic, creative one.  We wouldn’t be surprised if she took it up as a hobby as she gets older because she colors much more than my son ever did at that age.

Long ago, I decided that I wouldn’t stress about the “stuff” in our house.  So if you were to walk in to our living room, you might see crayon on the floor (it comes out easily with the steam mop). And I have walked in a time or two to find her “tattooing” herself with a pen.  Any time a company “innovates” their arts and crafts supplies, I’m interested in checking them out.

Crayola recently released their new Dry-Erase Crayons, Markers, and Board Sets, to inspire creativity while minimizing clean-up.  Both of my children would likely choose markers over crayons on any given day, however I often hesitate unless I can supervise them completely.  Even then, I worry about markers on their clothing and skin, and on other areas in my kitchen or living room.

Odorless and washable, my children can enjoy getting creative over and over again without me having to worry about cleaning up marker stains. And, the amount of time they can color is endless, since they can erase and start again.

Crayola offers two different Dry-Erase Ativity Centers which include 4 dry-erase markers, an eraser, 8 interchangeable activity sheets, a dry-erase board, 1 sheet of decoration clings, and a clear cover sleeve.  The Zany Play Edition inspires children to be creative while having fun.  Activities include Robot Tic-Tac-Toe, Space Cow Roundup (the game where you complete boxes) and more.  Of the two types of sets offered, both of my children prefer this one over the Dry-Erase Board Set. Be sure to check out their website for 100s of free activities that can be used with the Activity Centers.

The Dual-Sided Dry-Erase Board Set includes 8 washable crayons, an E-Z erase mitt, and a crayon sharpener.  Much like a dry-erase board with markers, children can create endless works of art.  When they’re done, just wipe the board clean.  The crayons won’t dry out and if your child gets them on his/her hands or clothes (my children already have), just wash them clean.

Want to get even more creative? Try using the dry-erase crayons on the windows and mirrors in your home. I personally enjoy how easy they are to color with.
