In a couple of days my husband, son, and I will be heading south for the winter…well…just for Thanksgiving. We used to make this trip at least twice a year but with the increase in flight costs and a toddler who isn’t easy to tote, the trips have become few and far between. Unfortunately, that means Jason’s parents don’t see as much of us or my son and they would like. We talk with them on the phone all the time but that’s not enough for them. They want to see their only grandchild. Because we both have webcams we’ve been video chatting which has helped them feel more connected to us and my son.
I was recently introduced to a new (and free!) service called TokBox. The service allows you to talk to friends and family over live video. When you sign up, you’ll be provided with a link that you can then give to your friends or family. They simply click the link and you can video chat (live audio and video) for free without downloading a thing or using a chat service! You simply video chat via your browser. You also have the ability to control who you can and can’t see (particularly good for children) once you’ve create a profile. TokBox is so simple to use and a fun, interactive way to keep in touch with friends and family who live far away.
What’s really great about TokBox is that you can embed the “Push to Talk” button on your social network profile, blog, or personal web page. I am planning on putting the button on my blog and Facebook page. They have a great blog that will most likely be invaluable for questions regarding the service.
Profuse thanks to TokBox and Mom Central for this review opportunity!
