Quick Reader Question

Posted by Caryn Bailey 10 Comments

I just spent the last hour or so going through press releases and PR inquiries for product reviews.  And after speaking to Jocelyn in Arizona last month, I have been thinking about how I might offer you (my readers) opportunities to develop relationships with companies.

If you’re a regular reader of my blog, then you know what to expect when you see a product review on my site. You know the approximate ages and genders of my children and therefore the types of products I do and don’t review.  What you may not know is that I receive numerous pitches from interesting companies that simply don’t make a good fit for our family. But that doesn’t mean that the company or the product is without value. Sometimes the products are too mature for my children (this JUST happened with a very well-known company I’ve been working with for some time now).  And other times, I am in the middle of a themed series on my blog and the product is not a great fit for that series.  I can list reason after reason as to why I turn down more than half of the pitches I receive.  But that’s not the point of this post.

My question of the day is this…IF I were to start a program where you (my readers) would have the opportunity to develop relationships with companies (which would involve product reviews) would this be of interest to you?  Would you prefer to have the review written on your own site or on my site with links back to your site?  What thoughts do you have about this kind of opportunity?  I welcome any feedback you can provide as it will weigh heavily into this decision. : )

Interesting option. I’d prefer to write the review on my own site. I’m always looking for new products to review & to develop new relationships. This sounds like a great idea.

I have older kids, 11, 14 and 17, so I’d love a chance to review some products that would work for them. I could go either way with where the reviews were hosted. I’d probably prefer to have the reviews on my own site, but I don’t have the traffic you do, so it would make sense that some companies would prefer the reviews on your site. The only issue I see for you doing this is you might find it is a lot of extra work for you. You’d have to evaluate the pitches, decide who to forward them to, follow up if necessary, etc. It seems like none of that is the enjoyable part of blogging, but if you’re willing to do it I’d be interested.

It sure would. I would love to do more reviews. The way you set it up should be up to you. If your nice enough to hook us up then it should be done the way which fits you best.

I love the idea, although I hope it wouldn’t be too much work on your end! I think you work with some awesome companies and I would love to hear about more opportunities. I would have no problem writing my review on my blog, your blog, or anywhere!

Always looking for new opportunities to expand my horizons – especially with items related to education (I’m a teacher) and my family. After working with you for several FRN reviews I would love to join a group. I think writing reviews on your own personal website may be easier, but would be open to things. Please keep me posted.

I think that’s a very interesting and great idea! I’d love that as well. I’d probably prefer to have them written on my site.
