One of the most exciting times in my life was the 8+months I spent in Edinburgh working and traveling as a nurse. Living in a place is much different than frequenting a place, and Edinburgh is the only other city I’ve called home. I grew to love the people of Scotland, a warm, stoic, allegiant bunch who hold tightly to their culture and traditions. While I don’t watch a ton of television, Starz brand new series based on author Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novels drew me in with it’s stunning destination setting in the Scottish Highlands and it’s unique, plot with twists and turns I have to restrain myself from giving away!
Merging historical fiction, romance, adventure and science fiction/fantasy, Outlander follows the story of WWII nurse Claire Randall, who finds herself mysteriously transported from 1945 to 1743 in the midst of a civil war and fighting to protect her life. When she is forces to marry the dashing Scottish warrior Jamie Fraser, she finds her heart torn between two different men in two dissonant time periods.
Prior to screening the first episode with Verizon FiOS SoCal, I didn’t have a lot of background on the series since I’ve yet to read the book. From the first few minutes, I found myself completely engrossed within the series, at times on the edge of my seat with the action, suspense, and romance. Because the series airs on Starz and contains some sex/nudity, language, and violence, it received a Mature Audience rating for Television.
Outlander debuts Saturday, August 9th at 9 pm ET/PT on Starz. You can also watch the entire episode online by visiting StarzPlay.com.
As I mentioned above, some very lucky fans were given the opportunity to screen the entire first episode of Outlander before it’s debut. This is just one of the many exciting opportunities Southern California locals can participate in as part of the Verizon FiOS SoCal experience. All summer long the Experience Team is hitting the road with their custom built, tech-laden vehicles outfitted with FiOS Quantum Internet and FiOS TV capabilities to show locals the power of FiOS. This month, you’ll find FiOS in Long Beach, Camarillo, San Bernardino and Huntington Beach at festivals, concerts, and other community events. You can view the entire schedule online by visiting FiOSSoCal.com/Live-Events/.

Aww, man! We cut our cable so I don’t have access to Starz. This sounds like a show I’d enjoy. I’m scared to check out the pilot!
