Organize Your Back-to-School Shopping With Classrooms By Walmart

Posted by Caryn Bailey 1 Comment

Last week, I drove my son by his new school.  For months we’ve been prepping him for the transition, and part of our back-to-school prep has involved creating excitement around this time.  As a child, I remember the anticipation I felt as we prepared for the new school year.  My mom and I had special shopping trips where I got to pick out a few items, in addition to the supply list provided by the school.

I honestly don’t know how much has changed since my school days.  Interestingly enough, there isn’t a book or manual, and my online research pulled up little to no information.  Everything I’ve learned about enrollment, lists and everything in between has been acquired by word of mouth.

Speaking of lists, many schools are now putting them online in preparation for the coming school year. Since I do a lot of my shopping online, I decided to check out Classrooms by Walmart, a new online tool designed to help parents and teachers create school supply lists.  When you visit the website, you’ll find school and classroom-specific lists to help guide your shopping.

Once the teacher has created the list (similar to a Wedding registry), parents can go in and print the list to shop in-store, or shop from the convenience of home. And of note, you can opt to have supplies shipped to your home or to the school.

While our school was listed on the site, a list had not been created.  I decided to check out the Walmart supply checklist specific for my son’s age group.

What I really like about the list is the sections for the location of the item, whether or not it’s in stock, and any notes from the teacher.  Additionally, the site offers recommended reading and other resources for families with school-aged children.

For more information or to find out if your school’s supply list is on the site, just visit Classrooms by Walmart.

Disclosure:  I participate in the Walmart Moms program and am compensated for my time and honest opinions.
