It is a warm Monday morning in LA, and I am at CBS Studios to meet with the cast of 9JKL. The sitcom, which debuted in October on CBS, is loosely based on the life of Dana Klein and Mark Feuerstein, who created and produce the show. The connection to Feuerstein’s real life was what initially drew me to the show, along with its comical, highly-relatable vignettes.
Thank you to Role Mommy Writer’s Network for sponsoring this post.
Starring Mark Feuerstein, Elliott Gould, Linda Lavin, David Walton, Liza Lapira, Albert Tsai, and Matt Murray, 9JKL is a family comedy inspired by the real-life experiences of Feuerstein when he lived in apartment 9K (a building he grew up in), sandwiched between his parents’ apartment 9J and his brother/sister-in-law’s apartment 9L.
Josh Roberts (Feuerstein) is a newly divorced actor in between projects, who moves back home to New York to regroup. His parents could not be more thrilled to have their son back home as they meddle with the best intentions. His father, in particular, balks at any semblance of boundaries as he attempts to help Josh land his next starring role using his Hollywood connections. Josh’s competitive brother Andrew is a successful surgeon, who has no problem saying no to their imposing parents. With his family surrounding him (figuratively and literally), Josh realizes that he desperately needs to establish ground rules as he realizes that they are always going to be there for him.
Make Thanksgiving Great Again – Airs November 20, 2017
Just in time for Thanksgiving, 9JKL will debut their holiday-themed episode on November 20, 2017. Lois Smith guest stars as “the wrong nana,” in the latest episode which forces the family to endure a holiday with a complete stranger. When Nick is tasked with bringing Nana Roberts from her nursing home to celebrate Thanksgiving with the family, he arrives with the wrong grandmother. In an unexpected twist, the family is forced to deal with a stranger who antagonizes the family during Thanksgiving. Additionally, Judy begins to realize her critical tendencies and Andrew prepares for a sexy calendar photoshoot.
Make Thanksgiving Great Again airs Monday, November 20th, 2017 at 9:30 PM ET/PT on CBS.
9JKL is one of the funniest TV shows I’ve seen to date. I do not have a lot of time to watch TV, and when I do, I am highly selective of how I spend that time. 9JKL is compelling in that it details the highly relatable intricacies of families. From dating after divorce and finding time together as a couple after a new baby to meddling in-laws and aging parents, 9JKL addresses life’s most important moments with humor and heart.
See 9JKL on CBS every Monday night at 9:30 PM ET/PT.
