Growing up in Los Angeles, often deemed the “creative capital of the world,” I developed a passion for the arts, specifically film and theater. Even to this day I’ll sneak off to the theater by myself, when afforded the opportunity, to completely absorb myself in a film. I find the process of film-making and storytelling intriguing, and speaking with the filmmakers and talent affords me a stronger connection to the film.
Last week, I spent approximately 24 hours in Montreal with Sony to get an exclusive first look at the set of Smurfs 2, which is slated to be released in July 2013. You can imagine how excited I was given the fact that I grew up watching the Smurfs with my father and am now reliving those memories with my children.
While on location, I participated in roundtable interviews with Director Raja Gosnell, Hank Azaria, Brendan Gleeson, and Neil Patrick Harris. The film is set in Paris (hence the fact that they’re currently shooting in the French city of Montreal) and follows the story of Gargamel, the evil wizard who attempts to harness the magical Smurf essence by creating Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties. When he learns that only a Smurf can give him the essence, he kidnaps Smurfette and takes her to Paris. What ensues is a series adventures that the Smurfs embark on to return Smurfette to her home.
The live-action and voice cast will return for the sequel including Hank Azaria and Neil Patrick Harris.
Stay tuned for my updates as we get closer to the film’s release date.
No compensation was received for this post. I was invited to tour the set of Smurfs 2 in Montreal and participated in roundtables with the filmmakers.
