Mickey’s Halloween Party at the Disneyland Resort

Posted by Caryn Bailey 2 Comments

It’s the first week of October and my kids have already worn their Halloween costumes 3 times!  We kind of like this time of year, can you tell?

Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort is in full swing.  Both parks have undergone a spooky transformation which includes a haunted version of Space Mountain, a Halloween meets Christmas-themed Haunted Mansion, costumed characters and villains, and an abundance of uniquely carved pumpkins, many of which can be viewed on Main Street, USA.

Last week, our children donned their Disney-themed costumes in preparation for the annual after-hours trick-or-treat event.  Mickey’s Halloween Party, which is held on select nights throughout October, offers families a safe and festive environment to celebrate the holiday.  Here are some of the things you can expect this year and some of my tips for making the most out of these special nights.

1.  Arrive early. If you don’t have an annual pass or will only be visiting the resort for the private party, be sure to make the most of your time by arriving up to 3 hours early.

2.  Dress up.  Throughout the park, you’ll find at least 10 character photo locations where you and your family can meet and create memories with your favorite princesses, Disney villains, Disney and Pixar friends, and more.  Besides, dressing up is so much fun which is what this night is about!

3.  Plan your time wisely.  Between trick or treating, dancing, the rides/attractions, Mickey’s Costume Party cavalcade, and the Halloween Screams fireworks spectacular, you’ll want to be sure you plan your night accordingly.  I highly recommend arriving early for both the cavalcade and the fireworks spectacular in order to get the best viewing spot.  Be sure to check the times when you arrive to make the most of your evening.  And, if you follow suggestion number one, you can enjoy some of the themed attractions like Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy and Haunted Mansion Holiday before the party officially begins, leaving time for trick or treating and dancing!

4. Prioritize. Unless you have young children who are likely to fall asleep before the party ends, I recommend saving the photo opps and trick or treating for a bit later in the evening when the crowds of dissipated. At the very least, be sure to check out stations and locations throughout the entire park because there are many!  Some of the activities you absolutely don’t want to miss include Halloween Screams Fireworks Spectacular and Mickey’s Costume Party cavalcade.

5. Buy your tickets in advance.  Mickey’s Halloween Party is so popular, that it will likely sell out.  Purchasing tickets in advance not only guarantees that you’ll be able to attend on the date you desire, you’ll also save $10.

The entire evening was lively, filled with themed music, treats (including healthy treats), spooktacular decorations, and our children’s favorite Disney characters.

Mickey’s Halloween Party is currently taking place at Disneyland park on the following dates: Sept. 30, October 3, 7, 11, 14, 18, 21, 25, 28, and 31. For tickets and information, visit Disneyland.com/halloween.

No compensation was received for this post. Tickets to Mickey’s Halloween Party were provided, which helped facilitate this review.
