This giveaway is now closed. Thanks for stopping by. The winner is Amy. D. Congrats!
Hair (or lack of it) isn’t really something people think about it until they’re faced with a loss. But if you think about it, hair is so much a part of a person’s appearance and identity. How often have you identified a person by the color, length, and/or type of hair on their head?
This week, Supercuts has teamed up with LA-based radio station K-EARTH 101 and Paul Mitchell for Locks of Love Week, where donors who meet the not-for-profit organization’s guidelines will receive a free haircut and a Paul Mitchell Sculpting Brush at participating locations throughout Southern California.
Locks of Love uses donated hair and resources to provide custom-fitted hair pieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from medical hair loss. It is through donations that the organization is able to provide these prosthetics free or on a sliding scale to these children in need.
This particular program drew inspiration from JoJo Lopez, a nine-year-old K-EARTH listener who wanted to donate her hair to help provide hairpieces to these children in need. She reached out to the LA-based radio station who teamed up with Supercuts and Paul Mitchell to assist with the cause.
While this is only a local effort, Locks of Love is a national organization. If you would like to make a donation, I encourage you to read through the guidelines.
You can read more about Locks of Love Week here.

This cause is important bec I have a friend that is having to deal with cancer right now and she has lost all her hair from treatments. I have donated a few times. Right now, I have hair that is down to my waist and will be donating it to locks of love. I can give a person fitting cancer a small piece of something normal.

I donated to Locks of Love once after my Grandma passed away. She wore a wig from her chemo/radiation treatments but as she didn’t have one that was very well made she mostly just wore a turban. I love that locks of love helps people be more confident.

I’ve donated hair to Locks of Love and to Children with Hairloss http://www.childrenwithhairloss.us/
It’s something that I can do to help make a difference in someone’s life. I asked my 3 year old daughter if she’d like to donate her hair with me next time. She said yes. She hasn’t had a haircut yet! Her hair is long enough to donate to Children with Hairloss – which requires 8″.

This is a wonderful program and a very important one. When we have extra cash we donate to St. Jude’s Children hospital. These children are going through so much already and losing their hair. This give them more self-esteem and more courage.

A wonderful idea. I have several family members and friends who have lost their hair to cancer.

We are a visual society and a cancer patient’s troubles should not be compounded with the need to appear visually appealing. Locks-of-Love delivers some peace in an otherwise turbulent situation.
My sister-in-law has been through chemo twice for Lymphoma and lost her hair. This is a cause very important to our family.

It’s important to me because alot of people that I know and are dear to me have had cancer. It’s a battle some have won and others haven’t. I used to be a beautician and can’t imagine going through something as horrible as that and losing my hair. The locks of love helps those that need it by giving them some confidence and helping them feel better about themselves at a time they need it most.
It is wonderful to give people who have lost their hair the opportunity to receive a hairpiece and regain some sense of self esteem and dignity.
Its awesome for those going through so much to at least be able to feel pretty and good about themselves.
One of my friends’ sister had cancer. She lost her hair and had to get a wig, but she defeated the cancer. My friend now donates her hair regularly and she has inspired me to do the same.
This cause is important to me because it helps KIDS and helps their self esteem at a time when they really need it! My daughter’s hair was down to her waist and when she got it cut, she donated it to Locks of Love!

this cause is important to me because I have a scar on my head that isn’t too bad and I know how it’s like to have people staring at a scar, but it gets covered up when my hair gets thicker. It must suck to have to have a medical hair loss issue. Anyway, I could use a $25 hair cut. LOL.
Trichatillomania(uncontrollable hair pulling) runs in my family. Wearing wigs is one way to keep from pulling out the hair. My own daughter has donated her hair to Locks of Love before.
It is important to me because donating anything is important. Teaching your children that giving can be just as rewarding as receiving.

I’m a woman who’s hair is very thin on the top of my head. It’s not completely a bald spot, but close. One day, I may have to use hair like this that is donated. For anyone who has lost their hair due to cancer, this is also wonderful. I’ve known a few women who have donated their long thick hair to groups such as this.
I was born with a facial birth defect and know how cruel kids can be even when they don’t mean to be. Even though I was going through surgeries and my scars were improving, it was still difficult. All I wanted was to be “normal” and live like a “normal” kid. I can only imagine that kids fighting illnesses and losing their hair must the same as I did. It is my honor to donate my hair every two years to these brave kids.
